but I took the day off today and have been updating my web page. Since I'm
new here I don't expect much response but thought I'd put it out there
anyway.

You've got a couple of images on your photos page that are on the order of
1.5 mb and 1.8 mb! I've got a really fast connection, and I'm sitting
forever waiting for them.

It's still trying to load an image of 1.5 mb, but I don't see any image
missing while waiting. ???

Not meaning to nitpick... :-)

Oh yeah. Was that on the image page? I also noticed something
kept on loading but then I didn't see anything else after it
finished.

Great site, Bear! You and your sweetie are both cuties!

OT PHOTO STUFF
--------------
FYI for interested readers, I've been working on restoring and digitally
archiving family photos for a few years now. What I do is work on cleaning up
and color-correcting photos in TIF format. When I'm satisfied with the end
result, I save two versions of it -- the large TIF file (suitable for printing)
and a JPG file. Once I save it in JPG format, I determine what size I want the
SCREEN image to be (viewing it at various percentages in Photoshop Elements),
then I RESIZE (as opposed to just viewing it at a smaller percentage) the JPG to
that size. Then, when viewed at 100%, it's the size it will be on screen and is
not taking up very much space on screen or on disk. I still have the TIF to edit
and/or print whenever I want, but am not putting undue strain on any resources
for on-line viewing.

For posting on webpages, another tip is to determine the pixel size of the image
and DECLARE that size in the HTML code. That way, the browser sets aside that
exact amount of space when determining how to display the page and doesn't waste
time trying to figure it out. For instance, a photo on one of my personal web
pages is specified as follows:

img width=310 height=230
src="Images/Photos/jac.bruce87.jpg"
alt="Photo: Jacquie & Bruce, 1987"
brbrbJacquie & Bruce, 1987

You can usually determine the pixel size in your photo editing s/w, but also by
opening the file directly in Mozilla or Netscape, which will show the pixel size
in the title bar.

If you ever have time to invest in this kind of project, it's WELL worth your
while. I saw things in photos that I had never seen, even though I had been
looking at them all of my life -- for instance, a photo of my mother and aunt on
tricycles in front of their house in the 30s -- I never realized until last year
that GRANDMA was standing in the doorway of the house in the background, holding
my newborn uncle. I was able to approximately date a photo from 1908 by zooming
in on a calendar on the wall. Tiny little photos JUMP out at you when enlarged.
I've color corrected drab, greenish/brownish (70s photos were the WORST in that
regard) photos and brought them to life in a way that made me gasp at how GREAT
they were with the right colors! Oh, and BTW, WATCH THOSE FINGERS when holding
prints! I can GUARANTEE you that a 60-yr-old fingerprint on a photo is like
CEMENT RIDGES **NOW**.

I highly recommend PhotoShop Elements -- at about $99 (cheaper if you get a deal
or rebate), it's a HELL of a lot cheaper than the full blown version of PhotoShop
and does everything needed for the average and even above-average user to edit
photos. Unlike most photo editing s/w included with scanners and digital
cameras, it's trimmed down, *NOT* dumbed down, giving YOU precise control and a
lot of flexibility.

Thanks for the compliment Saffy! And the information.
I did resize the pics of Tony and me the way you described. I think they
load ok unless you have a dial-up connection. I don't want them much smaller
becuase you can't see our faces that way.

Well.. it's a very nice site.. and no.. some might not be interested for
various reasons but I thought it was just fine. You should put up a picture
diary of your weight loss efforts!

Very nice page, Bear! You were a pastry chef? Mmmm...pastries...my
biggest weakness...
guzzles Raspberry Fruit 2 0
Much better...who needs pastries?

I found (obviously) the Fruit 2 0 at the BX (military speak for base
exchange) on sale for 60 cents per bottle. I've only opened the
Raspberry, but it's very good. Not carbonated, and not overwhelmingly
fruity. Very light and refreshing. This is something I will most
likely be buying by the case.

Thanks for the link to your page. Don't ever lose the beard; it suits
you.
