If anyone cares to share..
I would really like some examples of re-feed days. As per the advice of
others in another thread about my stall - you all have convinced me I need a good re-feed day. However, I am terrified that it will do a number of things to me, like trigger cravings and bring my acid reflux back. So any advice or examples of what you eat on your re-feed days would be appreciated. So I can decide how I want to proceed. I usually do this sometime when we're going out to dinner, and I'll just order what I want. I mean within reason -- not like 3 desserts or something :-). And my appetite isn't huge anymore. An example meal might be an appetizer of something like shrimp or scallops, or maybe a nice salad, a steak, potato, some kind of dessert, and a couple of glasses of wine. I don't push myself to finish everything, and will sometimes split a dessert or bring home some of my entree. I don't have any problem with a large dinner triggering cravings. In fact, I usually have much less appetite the next day. Others' experience may vary, though. I used to have some problems with reflux but I think not to the extent that you have reported. You might want to start with a modest refeed -- just adding a few hundred calories and not eating anything too high in fat or too spicy. Do you take any sort of meds for reflux? I never used any prescription products, but will sometimes take a Tagamet before a larger restaurant meal. Chris |

I agree with Chris. I'd rather have one controlled wonderful meal, than an
entire day of random eating (at which I am very, very good).I just had a re-feed meal last night. Considering my problem with my weight, I guess it is odd that I have never been an appetizer or desert orderer when going out to eat. I'll usually have a salad, though but will almost always save at least half to eat with my meal and I usually order fish, (last night was grouper) since that is really one thing I never make at home. I will note, that last night the kitchen left a rubber band around the asparagras which slipped into my fish unnoticed until I had a chewy mouthful. The waitress was so mortified she offered to take the whole meal off the bill, which I thought was unnecessary since I had gone on to eat everything. Instead, she brought out the most amazing desert for my husband and me to split. It was a real chocolate bag (about the size of a three pack box of microwave popcorn) filled with fresh berries, lemon cream mousse and a pastry stick. All around the plate was drizzed berry puree and some kind of cream in an intricate design. It was wonderful...a desert I would have never ordered for myself and the likes of which I had only previously seen on the food channel. Not really heavy, not overly sweet. My husband did his best to finish it, but even shared we could not. Sigh. Back to refeed days. Try it...it really is not hard to leave it behind and also like Chris, I usually wake up with a dimnished appetite the next day. Don't eat a lot of salt though, I have this theory that a lot of salt hits you harder than calories, if you are not used to taking in a lot. Have Fun. Elise. On Saturday and Sunday I pretty much eat and drink what I want. I usually stay within my WOE, but don't track. I still end up eating LC (except for the beer), and we're a pretty active family, so I still get some exercise. This weekend was our annual pumpkin bash--we invite friends and family to our cabin to hang out, carve pumpkins, eat, drink, and play. I made three gallons of turkey gravy and five dozen biscuits and four dozen sugar cookies, served with six gallons of fresh apple cider. Guests brought desserts and adult beverages. Well, I pretty much spent Saturday grazing along the buffet table, and we had a marathon game of hide and seek (three and a half hours) that looked like something out of the Blair Witch Project. Spent Sunday cleaning up after everyone, then league bowling in the afternoon. I felt bloated and uncomfortable all day--all those carbs--so was very anxious to get back to normal on Monday. I'll be heading to the gym in ten minutes, have all of my food planned for today, and know that while I may have overdid it, I had a great time, and know enough to get back on track. That's how a refeed works for me. YMMV. Amy 168/115 (today)/113 |

I actually do a refeed meal, rather than a whole day, usually. For me, a refeed looks like this - a big juicy steak, a baked potato, grilled veggies, a couple beers or glasses of wine, maybe even splitting a dessert w/someone. I just eat my favorite foods - I usually go out to a nice restaurant, because you eat while you're there, but when you go home, it's back to the woe. If you go out and buy ice cream or whatever, you have leftovers, and then refeeds last 2 or 3 days...;-) det |
