OK, stop the presses right here. Is there a reason that you can't pack
a breakfast? I mean, you are eating at work anyway so why not plan for
it by packing a breakfast?

No. The point about breakfast is that your brain needs the calories after
going without all night. I always schedule fasting cholesterol tests as
early in the morning as possible because I know from experience that if I
don't eat in the morning, I get really nasty and have trouble making good
decisions, and I often have to break religious fasts short due to headaches.

I don't think exercising before breakfast is a bad thing, it's my best time
for extremely long walks because I can get them done before it gets too
warm. But I never skip breakfast.

Sounds like you need more variety in your eating habits. Try keeping a box
of Cheerios in your desk at work, or make up a ziploc bag of Cheerios,
raisins, peanuts, and whole or chopped almonds. Eat a handful or two with a
carton of skim milk. You can substitute Mariani prunes or apricots (snipped
up) for the raisins, substitute Chex for the Cheerios, substitute pecans for
the almonds. There are also shelf stable vegetarian meals by TastyBite and
IndiaHouse if you have a microwave in the office and you like spicy food.

Um, really? Couldn't we rephrase that, "I don't value breakfast so I
don't bother to plan for it?" Which sort of translates to, "I pay so
little heed to my eating that I got fat."

Thus while at work, I would get a cinamon raisan bagel,
low fat cream cheese, and cranberry juice. But looking at the
calorie count, thats probably over 400 calories (and nearly $3.50
out of my pocket)!

And a pretty high dose of simple carbs, too. Those are refined flour
bagels. I eat 1/2 a whole wheat bagel with light cream cheese and
pieces of lox on top for breakfast most days. I can eat this in the car
as I drive. I also tend to eat whole wheat english muffins with
peanutbutter on them if I'm having to drive while eating. Another
option is a Myoplex Lite shake. Lately I've been having Cappacino Ice
with cold coffee. Yum.

During my diet competition, I skipped breakfast
but drank about 2 quarts of water. After the diet competition
ended, I started back having the bagel breakfast. Now I am trying
to stop, since I getting back addicted to them ;-) I know ppl

No. I don't think you understand why skipping breakfast is bad. During
your competition what kind of weight did you lose, fat or lean body
mass? When you're shutting down your metabolism you feel less hungry
(more lethargic) but your body gets used to not being fed and just goes
into starvation mode, where it's more likely to burn energy from muscles
and store any food that comes in as fat. The reason you eat breakfast
is to keep your metabolism healthy.

You may not have any metabolic problems (yet), but I'd say you should
avoid getting them by eating a healthy balanced breakfast within a few
hours of getting up.

Isn't it good to excercise on an empty stomach?

It's neither good nor bad.

By lunch, I normally
would have walked about 3 miles at a fast pace. Let me add that
for lunch I tend to have a salad or sandwich.

So you wait until AFTER exercising at lunchtime to eat? That seems like
a good way to be catabolic on your muscle mass, i.e., I bet a high
percentage of your weight loss is coming from muscles rather than fat.
If I were you I'd aim to keep the muscle and lose the fat.

By the way, Patty Heil's idea of bringing cheerios to work is pretty
horrible. Some easily digested simpled carbs is NOT the way to go. How
about bringing some cottage cheese or a hard boiled egg?
