Week 16 report - another gain! What's that all about?
OK. I'm getting worried.
* I have not gone off my diet at all. * I have not been *tempted* to go off my diet. * I continue to exercise every day. But on a week-to-week basis I ended up *gaining* 0.2 kg = 0.4 lb this week. My weight did fluctuate between 110.2 kg and 109.6 kg all week. And even yesterday morning's scale check showed 109.6. But this morning - my "official" weigh-in day - I was at 110.4 kg. sigh The week before people were suggesting that maybe I was eating too few calories and getting into "starvation mode". So this week I judiciously and slowly added back a few more calories. I still didn't go into the bonus - I averaged 1714 calories per day for the week. I definitely don't want to change my diet, but I feel like after two weeks like this - I've only lost 0.6 kg = 1.3 lb all month so far! - that maybe something is wrong. At my weight I should be dropping at least 1 kg = 2.2 lb a week like clockwork. It's way too early at this stage for things to be slowing down. I don't want to turn to carbs again - I don't want to change my varied and easy-to-stay on low-calorie diet at all really. But I wonder if maybe sugars and carbs in my diet are slowing down the progress at all. Or is that just nonsense? I hesitate tweaking with my diet because I've finally found a routine that is easy to stay on and provides great *variety*. But I feel like this whole month has just been "lost time" weight-loss wise and feel frustrated. But I'm not going off my diet... doug |

Could it be time to start eating less? How many calories did you eat last month? I wouldn't think so. I still weigh about 110 kg = 242 lb. By any reasonable metabolic calculation 1700 calories a day should still be letting me lose weight at a reasonable clip. doug |

Your "gain" could be due to a salty meal the day before, missing a bowel movement, etc. Comparing any two weights (even if a week apart) doesn't tell you much about the long-term trend. FWIW, that's why I prefer daily weighing, along with some statistical analysis (ala, my WeightWare software). But I'm not going off my diet... doug That's a real bummer but it's not unusual for a stall of 2-3 weeks even when sticking to the diet. IIRC Chris (who lost half her body weight) experienced the same thing during her weight loss period. When I was losing my weight I would go along for a couple weeks without any loss and then have a whoosh of 2-3 pounds in one week. Just stick with it! It all comes down to calories in/calories out and with your dedication you're bound to have a whoosh soon! Maybe adding a little extra walking will get the loss going again. Beverly |

sometimes these adjustment periods take a couple of months, if you are
exercising, are not hungry, know the calories you are eating and are happy with it, then just hang in there, I have been working for over the last six months to get rid of the last ten pounds, and I have had plateaus of up to 3 months, I know I am eating right and doing right, I figure my body is a slow learner so it takes that long for it to figure out what I am doing and comply, get as frustrated as you want, but if you feel good and the small losses is all that is wrong then just push on and you will get there, remember your body is NOT a clock, good luck, Lee Doug Lerner wrote in message ... Have you begun exercising recently? The first time I seriously lost
weight, I began an exercise program at the same time as I started changing my way of eating. I lost absolutely nothing for the first month (very depressing, let me tell you), and then I started losing at a normal rate. I believe that it had something to do with body changes as I gained an initial amount of muscle. This time, I started exercising more about a month before I changed my eating. No loss associated with exercising alone, but once I started eating less, I started losing right away. - Olivia Doug Lerner wrote: OK. Yes, if you indeed eat that much (are you positive?), then it is a reasonably low amount. I try to be an honest counter. I use level tablespoons of all my condiments. Most stuff I get is prepacked with calorie counts on them, so I use those numbers. So, yes, I think I am being correct with the calories I am eating. doug |
