Default Any advice please?

Hello everyone

Im new, so dont be to harsh yet.....

A little about me.

Im a big bloke, around 400lbs and Ive tried several diet's over the years,
but obviously
i've never found one that suits me.

Ive been doing a little research and reading on the low carbs diet, and
would like to try it,
however theres a lot of web sites out there, which contradict one another,
can anyone
recommend a website, which offers good (honest) advice and has a list of
foods which I
can eat (and cant).

The reason Im going to give a low carb diet a chance is that I have a friend
(yes its true, I do),
that was always a big lad around 250lbs but started the low carb diet, and
he looks amazing,
honestly when I bumped into him I could not believe it was actually him.

Can anyone also offer any hints and tips on the low carb diet? Also (and I
have to ask this) seeing
as Im quite large to start with, can anyone let me know (through experince
maybe) what I can expect
to lose per month with this diet?

Thanks, and I look foward to anything anyone has to say.

Jay

He's your best source then. Ask him what he ate and what he didn't eat. In
addition to him, I would go to the bookstore and buy "Atkins for Life" by Robert
C. Atkins. That book tells you most of what you need to know.

What you can expect to lose per week depends on how much you eat and how much
exercise you do. It's all in the book.

I would ask him, however he is now backpacking around Europe, will look for
the book
though, thanks

Hi Jay,
Welcome to ASDLC and the low carb way of life. )
While Atkins isn't the only low carb diet out there it is the one I'm most
familiar with. I prefer the New Diet Revolution book but there's also a
website that gives the details on how to.......
http://atkins.com/howto/index.html

One of my favorite websites for info and recipes is
http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/ .

Can anyone also offer any hints and tips on the low carb diet? Also

My advice is to keep it simple at first no matter what plan you choose to
follow. Give your body a chance to experience and enjoy real food rather
than trying to substitute low carb processed food for the high carb stuff
right off the bat. It'll also make it a lot less expensive.

As for how much you will lose per month......that's totally YMMV (your
mileage may vary). It's going to depend not only on how many carbs you eat
but on your own body chemistry, exercise, and calorie intake (not too much
or too little).
Best of luck to you. )

They also publish a small paperback containing carb and net-carb gram counts for
each food. You'll need that one as well.

Think about including exercise, even if you just go for a walk every morning
before work and again after work.

Basic strategy:

1. Stop eating sugar, flour, rice, potatoes.

2. Increase protein, increase fat (not too much, read the book)

3. Drink lots of water every day.

4. Include high fiber foods like All bran, nuts, etc (read the book)

5. Include as much daily exercise as you can.

6. Kill hunger with a small piece of cheeze or a hardboiled egg.

Hi Jay!

I weighed a little over 280 pounds earlier this year. When my doctor first
suspected that I might be diabetic, she told me to quit eating sugar, potatoes,
white flour products (bread, pasta, etc), and rice.

I eat less of the stuff I can still eat without going hungry. I suspect I'm
getting all the carbs I need since I seem to have more energy, etc.

I've lost almost 50 pounds in just 3 or 4 months.

Good luck.
