What is my daily caloric requirement?
What is my daily caloric I'm a 56 year old male, 6"2'2" and about 208 lbs. I work out 6 days a week ( 4 days 1 hr aerobic, 2 days 1 hr,. weights, and 30 minutes of aerobic training. I work from home so a lot of the rest of the day isnvolves sitting at my desk or waklking around the house. I have seen various caloric calculators which claim to tell you what your daily caloric requirements are but they have huge variations. Can anyone give me a "general" idea of what mine might be? Thanks, Sy -- Please post and reply to |

Thanks, Sy -- Please post and reply to The Harris-Benedict formula is one of the more commonly used metabolic rate calculators (I've included it in my recently released WeightWare program). Assuming your are "Moderately Active - Moderate exercise/sports 3-5 times per week", it predicts you would require 2,972 calories per day to maintain your current weight. At the higher level of "Very Active - hard exercise/sports 6-7 days per week", it predicts you would need 3,308 calories per day. However, these are ballpark estimates only. Thanks, Sy http://exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html any calculator is going to give you an estimate...a "general" idea. you have to take what it gives you and make slight adjustments. for instance, if you try this, and you lose 1 pound in a week, it's about 500 calories too low. if you try it and you gain 1 lb in a week, its about 500 calories too high. good luck |

BMR is around 2000-2500 according to http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html This is in the right ballpark, cos I'm about the same height, weight and age and I aim for 2000 calories a day to lose about 1lb a week with a little exercise thrown in. why do you need to know anything other than a ballpark figure?
