Default Statins of Little Benefit In Those With High HDL

Findings from a new study suggest that doctors should use "good" (HDL)
cholesterol levels to determine which elderly patients are most likely to
benefit from statin therapy.

I'm printing this article out and taking it to the doctor with me.

I am SO tired of getting yelled at because I won't take a statin. My
HDL is always between 64 and 74!

No link but I read in Time, I believe, taking statins before surgery is
helping more people survive surgery ( blood clots and such)

I already have a tendency to bruise and bleed abnormally. Last thing I
need before surgery is something that makes me less able to clot!

Don't forget, there are two kinds of strokes--one from clots, the other
from inability to clot the tiny bleeds.

These drug companies keep trying to come up with more reasons to
prescribe the statins as the research backing up their original claims
fails to hold up on long term study.
