I'm curious...did you really eat enough in 2 days to account for a true weight gain of 8 pounds? That would mean having to eat 28,000 calories over those two days. That's a LOT of food! That is the amount of calories I eat in 3 weeks time! I have seen major fluctuations on my scale, as much as 4 pounds in a day. It is almost always completely water gain and not a true weight gain. That is why jumping on the scale every day is a bad idea. Especially for women who can go up and down drastically in just a day or two depending on water, hormones, salt, etc. i have been able to accomplish this amount of waterweight gain over one weekend just by going to a bad casino buffet mk5000 "This one's got me pulling my hair out. Speaking of setbacks and quick gains...
I was talking to my girlfriend today abotu the food consumption we both had this weekend (she too, went out of town to visit family)... and she made a comment about it takes 3 days for the weight to show up on the scale. So, as she said - don't get on the scale on Thursday. Anyone know or have anecdotal evidence on this? I'll surely see as the week goes on for me. Although I'm not to stressed about it. Four are gone, but the remaining 5.5 have stuck for several days now, which is very depressing. People wonder why I watch my diet and exercise so carefully..this is why. Good luck to all, setbacks or no. -Alison, not feeling too great or motivated, but going out running anyway Alison, it's a relief to know I'm not the only one who gains big time once my eating gets out of control. 8 lbs in 2 days, and 13 lbs in 12 days are both gains I recorded on occasions last winter before I got back on track. It scares me to think that I'm always only a few short weeks away from regaining the lot - which has happened several times over in the past. Don't let anyone tell me it takes longer to put it back than to lose it, because in my case that just isn't true. Hope you soon see the back of your 5.5 janice 233/161/133 |

I know why I'm up 2.5 pounds from yesterday. Chinese food (Chinese food 'American-style', that is!). Calorically a pretty high day, but not all THAT high! It was a splurge, maybe 400 more calories than my usual eating plan and NO exercise yesterday (which is very very unusual for me!). I'm going to chalk it up to a big 'oh well', get on my bike and go for a long ride, and keep the fat and starchy carbs low today. And see what tomorrow shall bring :-) best, Jonquil |

Jonquil,
That burst of gain could be water retention from the (relatively) higher sodium content of the Chinese food. Drink extra water today to help "flush" it from your system. Thanks Ann, yes, that's what I thought too. That and the fact that
I'm not used to eating starchy carbs at night, not at all! And this was really typical American Chinese restaurant fa beef tomato chow mein (accent on the pan fried noodles and not the veggies/meat); fried rice, moo shu pork, etc. Heavy stuff! But in no way could it account for a REAL 2.5 pound overn ight gain, as I mentioned, I estimated that I took in 400 extra calories beyond my usual daily intake (only because the earlier part of the day was so light tho!!) I probably drink 3+ litres of water/day, so I should be ok :-) Thanks for the response. I find that if I do something that I'm not used to... my muscles may retain water for a couple days. It can easily make for a 2-4 jump in pounds. Extra sodium can do the same thing. 262/239.0/200 first goal |
