Default eat my dust

That's what I got to say to DH yesterday. We went on a bike ride together
for the first time since I got my new bike and for the first time in riding
with him - I lead the way and I kicked his butt. :-) (yes, a bit of self
gratification there). At one point he kicked it into high gear and tried
to build speed. I stayed right with him and we got up to about 19mph and
then he suddenly fell back. I still had 3 more gears to go on the bike,
but my heart was pounding pretty hard. I'm still recovering from an upper
respiratory/sinus infection that has kicked my butt the last 1.5 weeks. So
on a healthy day I would have out ridden him even more.

Beverly, this bike suits me just fine. I'll be happy with it until DH
decides he's upgrading his bike and starts out riding me again - then I'll
be ready for that road bike upgrade.

In the mean time I'm very happy with the fact that I ride faster than DH.

I definitely enjoyed that aspect of going from a mountain bike to a hybrid
. Now that I've got clipless pedals, I'll definitely leave him in the
dust!

WTG! What did DH think? He'll be wanting a faster bike if you keep kicking
his butt

This would have been a great weekend for some bike riding around here but
I've spent most of the weekend painting my garage (ceiling, walls and floor)
and installing some additional shelving. I'm just too d*mn tired to even
think about riding around the block.

He's got his schwin that is more of a street bike that he needs to fix up.
He blew a tire a while back and let the bike sit for a few years using his
Kona mountain bike instead. He recently got new tires for the schwin and
installed them to find that his breaks were bad. In trying to repair the
breaks he broke the shifting mechanism. (they are intertwined together).
So, he needs to get a new shifter and breaks and get the damned thing fixed
as right now he's using that as his "excuse" and that once he gets the other
bike fixed up, he'll be putting me in his dust again.

I'll be damned if I'll let that happen.

In the mean time - he did not want to go riding with me today.

He didn't take the fact that I was fast than him too well. My
gloating probably didn't help. But hell - I've spent 6 yrs of the
occasional rides with him pulling ahead by 1/4 mile or more then
stopping to rest while I catch up and having him ask me "what's wrong,
why are you riding so slow" blah, blah, blah... Paybacks are a bitch,
ya know.

Congratulations on the ride. You don't sound tooo pleased about this

Good job. If your husband is of competitive nature, this may be extra
motivation for him... You are also pretty good at running, IIRC.

DH is pretty fit himself. He plays tennis in a league at least 2 or more
times a week. (he's gone for 4 to 6 hrs for these tennis matches.) Very
competitive when it comes to tennis. He is also into volleyball - they play
at work on their lunch hours - has played this for many years. He also
tries to make it to the gym a couple times a week - although of all the
things he does, that's probably the least.

Then there are the many other activities we enjoy doing, from biking,
rollarblading, boating, canoeing, camping, hiking, walking... to our yearly
adventure trek type vacations that usually involves mountains. (skiing,
hiking, mountain biking, etc)

So, if by motivation you were referring to getting him more active - that's
a non issue.

Well done - a smug moment is allowed :-)

I had a smiliar moment a few weeks ago when a fit young thing on a mountain
bike overtook me. Me, a middle-aged bird on a tourer complete with mudguards
& cotton duck saddle bag. So I sprinted, caught him & passed him. Hah!

Cheers, helen s

Hooray for the hybrid! :-) Great work, Jayjay -- I am looking forward to
getting back on my bike. Taking it in tomorrow for a tune-up.
