Default leg pains

Hello,

I'm writing this on behalf of a friend. She is in her 30s or 40s, and
has been on the Atkins diet for 3 months or less. (Sorry, I don't
know all the specifics.) She does not, to my knowledge, have any
relevant health problems such as diabetes, and she does not smoke.

She is feeling sharp pains in her right leg, and feels this has
something to do with her dieting. My first two thoughts we (1) did
you see your doctor, and (2) are you taking your minerals?

She has not seen a doctor, because her doctor has been unhelpful about
other non-Atkins matters on the past, and she's kind of annoyed with
the doctors now. She is taking vitamins; I don't know about minerals.

Any guesses about the leg pains?

If anyone chooses to respond, please post to the group, not to my
email.

Thank you,

Ted Shoemaker

Without knowing more, I would say drink more water and take potassium (1 tsp
of Morton Lite Salt per day) as well as magnesium and calcium. I also know a
couple people who have had leg pains/cramps from too much aspartame
(NutraSweet).

If diet is ruled out.....

Any leg pains I usually have are directly related to my non cancerous
uterine fibroids pressing on my nerves of my back! TOM is sooo fun for me!
WEeeeeeeeeeee!

If you can find any sf/diet tonic water buy it for her, Quinine is great for
leg pain.

I would say leg pains are due to dehydration! This Low Carb diet was
popular some 30 years ago and nicknamed The Water Diet, so take note and
be sure to drink at least a gallon of water daily, plus your choices of a
Diet Rite soda or Crystal Light, etc over and above the gallon that washes
out your body daily... gl

Is it like a cramping pain or a shooting pain down the front of the shin? If
it's the former, more water and lite salt (containing potassium).

If it's the latter, has she recently started walking more or anything?
Sounds like shin splints, usually caused by exercising on a hard surface
without enough cushioning in the shoes. I got it when I used to play indoor
netball on a court that was concrete covered with astroturf.

If it persists she should definitely see a doctor, even if she tries a
different one. Keep off the subject of diets so it won't interfere in the
diagnoses (or ask this group who knows of a LC-friendly doc in her
locality).

a gallon a day is approaching a dangerous level of water consumption unless
you supplement minerals to replace those being excreted with the excess
water. an amazing number of people get serious health complications from
excessive water ingestion.
