Default Time taken for body to start burning fat?

I presume when you eat no glucose or carbohydrates whatsoever your body
figures out it needs another energy source.

How long does it take for your body to fully adapt to burning fat as an
alternative energy source?

My understanding is that there are five primary energy sources for your
body:
1) Alcohol
2) Carbs
3) Protein
4) Dietary fat
5) Body fat

These are also written in the order in which your body prefers them. So when
you cut out the alcohol and carbs, the next energy source in line is
protein. Protein, however, has a couple of other important functions (such
as rebuilding muscle) so not all protein you eat gets converted to energy.
The final two sources of energy of course are dietary fat and body fat.

Dr. Atkins wrote that it takes about two days for your body to use the
glucose it has stored. So two days after starting a low/no carb diet, you
should be burning fat...

I've written a short article here
http://usingatkins.blogspot.com/2003...92070871 1091
that expands on the reasons why low-carbing works a little bit more.
