Exercise :)
I managed to walk for 10 minutes the last four days in a row. I live in
an area with quite a few walking paths of different lengths so I hope to work my way up through them. This one is just a short jaunt around a block or two. I feel bad that I'm only able to do it for 10 minutes before feeling it in my knees and feet but then I remind myself that I didn't get out of shape in a day so to ease up on myself. 10 minutes is more than I have been doing. I also did it in the rain so that was a big boost to me because it felt good to be out instead of sitting in my living room staring at the rain and getting down. While I may look like a marshmallow I'm not made of sugar so I'm not going to melt if I get a little wet. Besides rain is predicted for the next week so if I'm going to exercise at all I got to get out there and do it. The sun came out today for about an hour and I spent 40 minutes raking my backyard. Usually I'd break it up in 5 minute chunks over a day or so but I managed to stay at it. I do wish all the leaves would come down at once though. Darn small leaf but plentiful trees. I felt down for being at a plateau for so long and was wondering if I was making any progress at all. It was frustrating. I went to my gp to get a refill on a thyroid med and he was happy to show me that I had indeed lost 8lbs since the last I saw him (month and a half ago). So that was a pleasant surprise. ~BC 318/262/200 [for now] |

I think walking and riding a bike is great exercise too. So fill me in - Oh I feel so dumb for asking this: 318/262/200 Is this - Weight you started at/Weight your now at/Goal Weight? Thanks |

Took me awhile to get it. yeah it is what you said. I just put 200 as a goal weight right now cause 130 -140 feels *so* far far away that its daunting |

There was a time that I couldn't walk more than that without knee pain, and now I can walk pretty much forever, and run for several miles. I'd never have thought it, but it happened. You just get there in baby steps (as it were :-) ). Chris 262/130s/130s |

Good for you! It seems to be raining everywhere today, but my apartment complex has a private gym. A few weeks ago buying groceries was tiring, but today I got an hour workout. You'll be walking further soon. While I may look like a marshmaow I'm not made of sugar so I'm not going to melt if I get a little wet. Hehe Besides rain is predicted for the next week I hope you're wearing proper gear. 318/262/200 [for now] 335/328/215 |

I love that you went out in the rain! I hope you jumped in a puddle or two as well!
Anyway I just wanted to mention about how not to discount "excersise" that is just part of life like raking leaves.... I'm a waitress and on my feet for 6-8 hours speed walking and carrying heavy trays... I always feel it in my arms and legs at the end of busy shift! So really everything does count! One other thing if you wanted to get more calorie burning excersise within those 10 minutes without further agrevating your knees and feet you could always try moving your arms more... try maybe doing "curls" or lifting arms straight out to the side! maybe do 10 then 10 step break then 10 again! It would definately up your heart rate a little more and help burn those calories without adding any extra pressure to your joints... Last but not least and I'm sure this will sound obvious but if your feet and knees hurt have you tried wearing custom orthodics in your shoes? they made a huge differance to my over used legs! ~ MKB "Hottie with a Naughty Body" |

We all have to start somewhere and the most important thing is just getting out there and doing it. a few years ago I was in a similar situation with my exercise. At that time a 15 mile bike ride was about all I could manage. I did my first 100 mile bike ride this summer and now do 30-50 miles regularly. Beverly |
