after hovering 220-223 range for over a month or more. I finally broke it
this morning. I am now at 218.5.... woop woop. I tried everything (i
thought) to break it. I tried exercising more.Eating less. Changed my
exercise routine all together. I read an old post that said this person
broke thier plateau by eating more. So I thought what the hell. I upped my
calories to a steady 2000. I usually eat 1500-2000 but average 1548 by

week
end. So I took in a steady 2000 cals a day this past week as an
experiment.I even cut out one whole day of my cardio. BOOM I dropped a
pound and a half. I guess I was under eating and over training.

Congrats on breaking the plateau. I don't understand how you broke it
by eating more though. Anyway we are both in the same weight range
and heading the same direction and that's GREAT! You started out a
bit higher than me though. I started at 300 and am now at 222 so you
have me by 3-1/2 pounds right now. Is NC for North Carolina? If so
where in NC are you from? I was stationed there in the Marines at
Jacksonville, NC.

Take care,

Why are refeeds helping with losses? I'll never figure this one out

I think the "short" answer is that it "convinces" your body that there is
*no* famine and that it can turn loose of a little fat because it's not
going to need it. Even cutting back your calories to 10x weight after a
while the body seems to think it's being starved and decides to hold on to
the fat and wait and see. I came across an article about this that was
called IIRC "Is your brain keeping you fat." I'll look for it again and if
I can find the link (which is doubtful, frankly) I'll post it.

Refeeds talk more to my scale than to my body. But I will show them
your post.

Here's a couple of articles on refeed.....one by Krista. I have a good one
bookmarked at home. If I remember I'll try to find it tonight.

1) The idea that "a calorie is a calorie" therefore all loss results from
cutting calories and nothing else. This is a false assumption that leads
to a false conclusion. But it is *SO* obvious that it should be true
almost everyone believes it.

2) Biochemistry. Eat too little carbs, your thyroid T3 output starts
dropping to turn down your metabolism. Eat too little fat, there are
other hormones that turn down their levels to turn down your
metabolism. There's a feedback loop that does the same thing for
protein but it's a complex interaction of many hormones. Basically
eating too little (carbs, fat, protein or calories) triggers a defense
mechanism in the body that many call "starvation mode". Eat plenty
and the hormone levels get reset high again. Never under eating in
the first place makes the whole refeed biochemistry trick not needed.

3) Poetically, add fuel to the fire and it burns brighter.
