Default Bicycle riding

Those who know me from last year when I posted a few times know that I
was dieting with a certain amount of success but had a hard time getting
motivated to start an exercise routine.

Today marks the middle of the second week of daily bicycle rides at
work. This is the first time I've exercised regularly in over 10 years.

It's not much, riding for about 20 minutes in the middle of the day, but
it's been enough to get my heart rate up and work up a good sweat. The
plan is to grow it into an hour-long ride every day. Today I went about
2 miles and max speed was 18mph. I couldn't figure out how to get my
bike computer to give me average speed, but I'll worry about that for
tomorrow's ride.

I'm having a lot of fun, and I forgot how much fun I had riding my bike.
Credit goes mainly to Neil for getting me off my ass. I mean, if a
man at his place in life can learn to ride a bike for the first time and
kick ass as much as he has, what the hell is my problem? Anyway, I'll
try to provide updates here and at my blog:

Congratulations Binky!

I love cycling and it's my main source of exercise. You're not the only one
who has been impressed with Neil's progress and determination to learn to
ride.

I can remember a few years ago when I started cycling a ride around the
block was about all I could manage. I hope you continue and find it just as
much fun as I have.

What type of computer do you have? Many have a button you push to change
the information displayed.

Hi Binky,

I'm glad you made the transition to two wheels. Clydesdales rule! (A
clydesdale is a male rider over 200 pounds.)

One suggestion, from one clyde to another, is that at some point you
invest in bike shorts. Yes, in July last year I posted "just say NO to
fat men in biking shorts", but I was stupid to do so. They make a
world of difference if you are riding more than a couple of miles.
Those of us with big bellies prefer bib shorts, the kind with shoulder
straps, because they stay up and keep our belly tucked in. You can
wear walking shorts or running shorts over your bibs if you are
modest.
As you can tell, I'm not modest:

I look forward to reading about the weighty matters underway, Binky.
Welcome back. Feel free to contact me by email if you have questions
you'd rather not ask publicly.

Willow, check out the new photos on my blog:

Both were taken during the "Neils on Wheels" ride yesterday. The

Why???

You're a better man than I am. I just came form the gym, in my X-Files
t-shirt (which is now **baggy**)
and a pair of K-Mart stretch-cotton shorts (XL, also bagging), I'd LOVE to
have a cute little workout
suit, but I'm just not "there" yet, I guess....

BTW, I hate those 22 year olds at the gym with "JUICY" printed across
their asses...

We all get heavier as we get older because there is a lot more
information in our heads. So I'm not fat, I'm just really intelligent
and my head couldn't hold any more, so it started filling up the
rest of me.

If you're basing this on the numbers in my blog post, please read more
carefully. I was listing max speed, not average.

You said your bike computer wouldn't do average speed so I calculated it
for you. I wasn't trying to contradict you or anything.
