Default Omega Diet or South Beach Diet

Yesterday my doctor told me to lower my cholesterol by using one of
these diets. Do you have any suggestions?
I read that Omega Diet is difficult to follow due to its specific
requirements, but what about South Beach? Weight is not a problem so
much as the cholesterol/LDL levels.
What I am interested in is how much time does it take to go on one of
these diets in terms of shopping for or preparing specialized items?
I suppose you can call it practicality. Or can I just stop eating
fried or fatty things?
I am going back for another check-up in two months, when he will put
me on medication if the numbers don't improve.
TIA.
