The water loss story ...!!!!
Hi Folks,
When people lose weight on traditional LOW FAT diets, they are told it's mostly water. When people lose weight on LC systems, they are also told it's mostly water. Supposedly, the water loss in LC systems is from the elimination of carbs where each glucose molecules is bonded to 4 water molecules. When the glucose gets burned, the water is shed out of the body. What happens in the LOW FAT diet then? They eat tons of carbs. That makes the body hold onto the stored water, right? If so, why the low fat dieters are told it's mostly water in the initial days? Or maybe the LOW FAT dieter loses water from one place and LC dieter loses water from another? J. |

Supposedly, the water loss in LC systems is from the elimination of carbs where each glucose molecules is bonded to 4 water molecules. When the glucose gets burned, the water is shed out of the body. This is an initial weight loss (water), not fat loss. What happens in the LOW FAT diet then? They eat tons of carbs. That makes the body hold onto the stored water, right? If so, why the low fat dieters are told it's mostly water in the initial days? It could be fat loss. Of course, if you're hypocaloric, carbs are getting burned up for energy, so one could be still in a glycogen depleted state. Or maybe the LOW FAT dieter loses water from one place and LC dieter loses water from another? Don't know about that. |

The body is in calorie deficit on both diets. It will use the glycogen stores from the muscles and liver before it starts working on the fat. It seems to happen more abruptly on lo-carb because the carbs are being restricted and new glycogen can not be made to replace them easily. Low fatters will get their energy mainly from new glycogen(from food) and stored fat, so their muscle and liver glycogen stores will get used up a little slower, but it will still happen. Lo-carbers will get their energy mainly from new fatty acids(from food) and stored fat. Or maybe the LOW FAT dieter loses water from one place and LC dieter loses water from another? J. |
