Should the morbidly obese ------
When I saw my doctor recently he actually told me that people that are
overweight are less prone to osteoporosis and fragile bones as their size compensates and you have very strong bones. Not sure how true this is though. He told me this when I told him that I was concerned about not consuming enough calcium and my body aching. Debbie "Chris Taylor Jr" wrote in message ... Hah that is funny. but alas this is one case where I would take the High Gas Mileage over the Road Hogging bulk anyday. anyday at all. it is simply not healthy being 365 pounds. not healthy at all. scares me in fact. I walk with paranoia knowing that one wrong step and my mass could snap my ankly like a twig. I am amazed I have not broken a bone yet. the few times I do "fall or trip" is actually quite funny. I very activily "give into" the fall just to prevent putting any undue pressure on the smaller joints (ankles wrists) for fear of breaking them. I did some basic figuring on just JOGGING. wow. nearly half a ton of force on EACH ankle EACH step. Very scary indeed. That is why for now I am limiting myself to bike riding. low impact on the joints but man if I fall. 365 pounds hitting the asphalt will likely result in a lot more problems than road rash. :-( Plus bike riding is dual purpose. I lose weight and get fit (too slow to be useful to my "confidence") but also semi efective transportation. I plan to dual purpose it. I LOVE going to the movies. their is a theatre that I would guess is "roughly" 1-1.5 hours a way by bike. (12 minutes by car but most uphill) figure I can ride to theatre. See a movie and then ride home. I get excercise and immediate reward at the same time. Now I just have to work up to being able toride that far. :-) Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/ "Jim Ledford" wrote in message ... try to think of it like this. food is expensive and those high metabolism people are like a car that gets poor gas mileage. |

Hah that is funny. when life is beating me up and trying to make me sad I fight back by trying to find some humor in the picture. never fixes the problem but makes it somewhat easier to make my way through the beating. but alas this is one case where I would take the High Gas Mileage over the Road Hogging bulk anyday. I peaked out at 245 pounds and at 6'1" I looked like a fatso and felt like a fatso. I did not like that. I sought help in learning how to eat proper. I changed my life style and the high sugar content items were placed off limits to me. it was rough though. every time I went into a store where hershey bars were sold I'd hear them calling Jim Jim Jim Jim Jim Jim JIM! I'd have to get out of the store before the sounds of all that would get out of my head. anyday at all. it is simply not healthy being 365 pounds. not healthy at all. scares me in fact. I walk with paranoia knowing that one wrong step and my mass could snap my ankly like a twig. I am amazed I have not broken a bone yet. maybe, you have good strong bones. the few times I do "fall or trip" is actually quite funny. I very activily "give into" the fall just to prevent putting any undue pressure on the smaller joints (ankles wrists) for fear of breaking them. sometimes I lose my balance and fall. friends have learned not to help me back up because I'd rather do it for myself. they can laugh and I'll laugh with them as long as they allow me to get back up by myself. I did some basic figuring on just JOGGING. wow. nearly half a ton of force on EACH ankle EACH step. Very scary indeed. math can be fun. I LOVE going to the movies. their is a theatre that I would guess is "roughly" 1-1.5 hours a way by bike. (12 minutes by car but most uphill) figure I can ride to theatre. See a movie and then ride home. I finally got me a bicycle, a ten speed I've only had one wreck so far. I tried to peddle up a hill in to high of a gear and when I stood up so I could apply more pressure on the peddle, the peddle broke off. it all happened so quickly, it was like one second I was on my new bike and the next second I was in the ditch beside the road. hurt my pride more than anything else since a good looking girl saw and then stopped to ask if I was OK. I get excercise and immediate reward at the same time. Now I just have to work up to being able toride that far. :-) Chris, it sounds to me as if you have found something you want to do and with that, I wish for you every possible success in obtaining your desire. what is SSFA ? Is misc.fitness.weights a newsgroup ? It's like this: you can go to support.fat-acceptance or the like and get support to remain what you are so you can keep feeling like **** but feel good about it. Or you can go to misc.fitness.weights and get help with getting the information on how to stop feeling like **** and feel good about it. I recommed the latter. (I will probably answer that before you reply but figured to ask just in case I dead end. Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/ Good luck with your program- leave the SSFA types behind and follow misc.fitness.weights |

I did some basic figuring on just JOGGING. wow. nearly half a ton of force on EACH ankle EACH step. Very scary indeed. That is incredible force on a body. As you can now see, that is why you don't see many obese people running and jogging. One thing I might suggest is adding some walking each day. It is a great exercise to start off with as it doesn't cost much and you can taylor your path to your surroundings. That hill would be great as a start. If you have to -- drive to it for right now. Just walk up and back down the hill at a pace comfortable to you, or go as far as you can. Do that for a few weeks and your strength will start to show. Then you can add distance. You might want to think about a walking stick. They absorb a lot of that force and give you more balance as three things on the ground are better than two. If you start to lose your balance you can often catch yourself before you have to strike the ground. That is why for now I am limiting myself to bike riding. low impact on the joints but man if I fall. 365 pounds hitting the asphalt will likely result in a lot more problems than road rash. :-( Plus bike riding is dual purpose. Walking down will still strain your thighs a bit (depending on the incline) and yet will not tax your heart till you get a bit stronger. I get excercise and immediate reward at the same time. Now I just have to work up to being able toride that far. :-) Every step counts. With that amount of weight you might not see results right away physically, but you will notice them bodily as you get stronger.
