Day 16 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
Day 16 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
253/243/195 August 30, 2005 Got on my scale a half hour ago and still weighed 243, so still only 10 pounds gone. Went up my hill last evening in some drizzle. Nice walk. Again had a few too many calories last night - probably about 1600. (After my walk up the hill that would have been equivalent to about 1300 intake for the day.) I came back earlier in the day than usual and, as a result, was too long in the kitchen. I'm going to make it a point not to eat before 6:30 P.M. Recently I have brushing my teeth with my clothes off in the morning and at night to give me more motivation and that certainly has been helping. People talk about a signal to noise ratio in early radio (and in more current circumstances). When my father used his two-ray radio back in the 50's and 60's for his job on a large farm, there was often a lot of static. So he would adjust the knobs to make the voice clearer and the static less. In maintaining motivation there is also both signal and noise, I think. If one is behaving appropriately, we should have signals for it - e.g., a chart showing lowered calorie intake, clothes fitting better, blood pressure more under control, pounds off on the scale, etc. The noise may be such factors as weight fluctuations due to water intake and salt, roughage in the system, etc. It's important not to let the noise get us distracted from a healthy way of life. If we are disheartened, distracted, we may well give up on a system that is actually working well for us and turn to something new but which is less effective. At any rate, I hope everyone has a system that works terrifically for her/him! Have a great rest of the week and a great month ahead! We're going to be a bit older in the next few months (God willing and the creek don't rise!) and we might as well be healthier as well! Yours, Caleb |

Rosie -- I gotta agree with you about mr. bush (This is the reason I
host a little monthly call-in cable access TV show called "Progressive Radio on TV" in which we explore current political topics such as those discussed by Air America, Ed Schultz, etc. My next guest will be the head of a local Unitarian Church -- terrific lady!) Nice hearing from you! I sure hope things are going well with you and yours! What's up these days? Yours, Caleb |
