Default Day 12 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving

Day 12 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
August 26
253/244/195

I got on the scale this morning (a few minutes ago, actually) and still
weighed 244. So still 9 pounds gone

Yesterday had about 600 calories or so, this all between 7:00 and 7:15
pm. Mostly a large soup. Was very filling and tasted great. Same kind
of thing I've had for the last week. I plan to largely carry on with
this meal as variety for me often leads to straying. Seems to me that
this is related to the phenomenon of people on trips tending to put on
weight: "Give me that! And this! And let me try that!" Pretty soon
portion control and other food limits are gone. So I'm pretty much
staying within a handful of foods.

Among other things that lead people astray from their diets is the
advice that one hears from a variety of sources - "Try this method!
Just do this!" If we have something that works for us it still is
easy to forget that and try something new that is advocated by others
- maybe the latest fad diet. As tennis great Bill Tilden said,
"Don't change a winning game!"

I made it up my little hill last night shortly before 8. My far better
half was picking blackberries on top of the hill I hiked up. We saw the
last of the sun set at a minute or two before 8 pm. Again, a very nice
sunrise.

Going up my hill last night I felt a bit weak and this might be due to
a combination of limited sleep two nights ago and present calorie
restrictions. However, this seems to me to be a good tradeoff to reach
my target weight.

I am going to try to write a little passage each day for at least a
year, except for those times I'm off hiking, on vacation, etc. (After
Thanksgiving, I think I'm going to change my postings to read: Day 1
of 365 Days and then see how that works out.)

I hope everyone is successful with whatever program he or she uses!
Great joy to all who try!

Yours,

Caleb

Caleb,

What is the point of losing the weight if you cannot keep it off, and you
just regain the weight year after year?

You put yourself at a greater risk of depression, diabetes, heart disease
and other health issues by continueing to gain and lose the same 40lbs every
year.

Your idea of gaining and losing and regaining and losing again only causes
your body greater distress and puts you in a very high risk category for
potential health problems.

If you lose weight, you need to keep it off. Not just lose it for a little
while and regain it again.

JayJay -- no depression, no diabetes, reduced heart disease by losing
weight.

I'm ecstatic I'm losing weight and that I will do so until I'm at
weight.

You mentioned lower metabolism because of fewer calories but I sure
don't see this as a major problem.

If you have had no set-backs with weight loss and weigh maintenance,
then I'm happy for you!

I don't think I've ever seen your weight numbers and so I don't know
your background or current condiditon -- but great for you if you're
doing well!

You can follow my progress in the year ahead and we'll see how I do
between now and the fall of '96.

Yours,

Caleb
