Nope - no diabetics in this family. And no gestational diabetes problems w/ the preganancy either. I've got 2 uncles that are well over 6'7" tall, and my brothers are both over 6'2" tall, and I've got 2 other uncles that are over 6'2" tall and then my ex's family - his dad is 6'2" ... Big in height is hereditary. My son was 8lbs 15oz when he was born and totally healthy. At 9 yrs old he's 4'10" tall and 82lbs right now. Tall, but not heavy. |

Excuses do not matter. Losing weight without exercise means keeping some fat and losing what you need. Luckily, lifting weights does not take that much time, contrary to what JayJay's post may imply. And just at the moment I am aligned with Beeswing and fed up at how religious attention to exercise has bulked me up in proportions I never had before. I look like I am wearing riding breeches and body curvature is very exaggerated. Carol - I highly doubt its the exercise that has bulked you up... unless you count the exercise your jaw is getting from all the nuts, honey and dried fruit you are chewing on. I have weighed this same weight before, prior to regular exercise and weight lifting and my body composition is much different than when formerly at that same weight. Remember those are my carbohydrate sources as I eat no grains, rice, potatoes or sweet potatoes, root veggies like parsnips, beets Jerusalem artichokes carrots. Before this bulking up I also ate nuts, honey and dried fruit. I have to make a determination as to whether to considerably reduce exercises like squats and see if this affects weight retention and measurements. I was very happy at my lower weight and started the increased exercise and weights to counter osteoporosis, something I certainly want to slow down. I am trying to see if I can strike some sort of compromise as i am miserable with how I look and how my clothes fit even if the weight differntial sounds small and petty to ohers. The difference reprsents one inch in measurements and one size in clothing unless I want it to be tight. Your support is appreciated but may be a little misdirected. We'll see. -- Diva ************* Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever. |

You seem to have missed the family trend for length. YUP - I'm the shortest in all documented family history. :-) (but how many family histories document height?) Something about the milkman comes up every so often. :-) The females in the family are all over 5'5"... my mom is 5'7", and my little half sisters are 5'9" and 5'10" (but then again, they have a different mother than me, and my stepmom is tall too). |

Not on the exercise aspect (my mom would just tell me to get out of the house and go play outside)... but on the food side, in that we had limited sweets and junk in the house and learned how to eat in moderation. that may have saved you from lifelong obesity... i Didn't work that way for me. We also had limited sweets and junk in the house, but as soon as I got out on my own I made up for lost time :-). I think that in some ways, making things "forbidden treats" increases their desirability. Chris My best friend was like that. She had parents who forbid any junk foods, so she'd just come over to my house and have them. I was not overweight growing up. Snacky-type foods were not made an issue. We had them once in a while, they were never forbidden. When something is completely forbidden, sometimes it makes them seem much more desirable. Martha |

"Ideal" weight
Mine is 6'2" and 188 lbs. and last night ate 1/2 of a pepperoni and mushroom
pizza with extra cheese a full order of mozzarella cheese sticks (1/2 cup ranch dipping sauce) with 2 - 12 oz, Dews to wash it down. For dessert (while sitting on the couch watching TV) about 2.5 cups of mint chocolate chip ice cream drowned in chocolate syrup!!! This is not an unusual day actually it's quite normal. But I have to work out for 3 hours last night to work off 8 oz. of chicken breast. I always say that genetics doesn't make people fat, eating too much and moving too little make people fat, but DH is making me think genetics can make people skinny!!!! What can I say....life's not fair. "Jayjay" wrote in message ... On Mon, 22 Sep 2003 14:18:16 -0500, "Kelly" wrote: "Jayjay" wrote in message ...
