If you find you canNOT eat your minimum points then you should add a
bit more Olive oil to the cooking pan. Munch on a weighed out portion
of nuts. They are packed with points (sigh) so that one ounce of
pecans will up you by 5 points, if I recall. Not hard to get points
with some of these smaller point heavy foods.

Good luck.

Yesterday, my first day on WW, (yup - a complete newbie!) I could only
manage 19 points - what am I doing wrong? Advice and suggestions
please!

Went shopping last night and spent twice as long round the supermarket
looking up the points value of things I usually buy - Paul got really
fed up with me... having said that he is being really supportive which
is good, he also needs to lose weight but isn't going to pay to come
with me, he'll just follow alongside what I am eating.

Suzie, welcome aboard! Another quilter joins the merry throng!

Thanks Kate - great to see some familier names here...

Plan the main meals, make sure there's plenty no point soup in fridge
and freezer for lunches, avoid buying the things you shouldn't eat so
they are not in the house for moments of weakness! Keep plenty of
carrots on hand for nibbling, and plenty of fruit for deserts, nibbles,
whatever. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!!

Its hard at the start, 'cos the fridge/freezer/cupboards still have
stuff that we shouldn't really have, its a choice between throw loads
of stuff away (which I hate the idea of) or trying to count it into my
points allowance... its gonna take a while to get my head round this.

Do you religeously (sp) fill in your points journal each day - or are
you past that? Do the books get read by the weighers at each meeting -
or are they merely an aide-memoire for you to keep track of what you
are eating?

I religously put everything in my journal. I shared the journals a few times
with my leader when I was looking for ways to improve my menus. I now use an
excel spreadsheet. Here is the one I created for the group to track Flex
points:

http://home.att.net/~extra623/flexjournal2.xls

When you open up the spreadsheet you will be prompted about macros. In order
to clear the spreadsheet, you must enable the macros.

Hi Suzie. Welcome to the group. You need to eat at least your minimum
points. Try adding olive oil, or nuts to your diet if you find you are
still having a problem meeting your minimum. Good luck.

Welcome to ASDWW Suzie! If you can't eat all your points, kindly
send the left over to me! Here are my replies to your other
questions ...
It is important to eat your full allotment. It is equally
important to keep track of what you eat as this will help you
figure out what is most beneficial for you, as you measure your
progress.

As far as variety in your b'fast and lunch, that is okay as long
as you are happy with your choices. Just be aware that boredom
(from meal repetition) can bring out the urge to knosh on high
point, low value items. When I "brown bag", I always prepare my
carry along lunch the night before. If there is a microwave
available in your work place, soup and stew are good choice,
especially on cold days.

Good luck, PAT in VA/USA

This is true - but where 'they' eat steak, I have a chicken breast,
where 'they' eat standard sausages, I have lo-fat ones... You learn to
work round these things.

Do you religeously (sp) fill in your points journal each day - or are

I fill my journal every day, with every bite. No, they don't look at
them at the meetings, unless you want them to so you can get advice
tailored to your specific needs. I find it useful so I can look back
and see what caused a fluctuation - like more salty foods, not enough
liquids, snacking on the wrong things... Too many glasses of wine
because I was out or had guests for sunday Lunch - all that sort of
thing is useful to journal.

There's a lady who comes to our meeting every week, and mans the sales
table, who has been at goal now for 3 years. She says what keeps her on
track is weighing every week, the weekly meetings, and journaling. I
find when I DON'T journal everything, I come unstuck!
