I exercise for health not for a tee shirt and maybe a trophy ,if the good
runners don't show up. I think the over indulgence in exercise such as
triathlons is a show-off thing to get people to see you at the finish line
and have something to talk about with your normal friends.
When the knees go out or your poor husband has a heart attack the tee
shirts wont be much reward.

This seems reasonable. But is walking 3 or 4 miles (about 9000 steps)
the extent of your exercise? And you only do it when you've gained back
a few pounds? No wonder you think stamina is something you lose as you
age.

I'd recommend half an hour daily of exercise strenuous enough to break a
sweat. It might be playing a game of badminton or running 3 miles or
hiking with your kids or riding a bicycle, but it's necessary for more
than just weight management.

What a remarkably silly thing to say! Why on earth would a trophy at the
end of it make it more "dangerous" than "exercising for health"?

I was under the impression than your husband was taking on the triathalons
also. If you are 41 go for it if it makes you happy.

Do you REALIZE you're fooling yourself?

I do REALIZE that one of the drawbacks of too much exercise is violent
behavior. One tends to have emotions of grandeur of their physical
prowess. You seem to be in that mode already. Please be careful.

LOL. I either really like you, or you are one of the most screwed up
people I've ever run into. I can't tell which yet.

So, which is it?

You probably like me because I am screwed up.
However, you do need to cut down on that over exertion. Think about
your family and your poor OLD husband. If you aren't careful you could
be working full time and not have the time to pound the dirt.

Gads, working full-time? Never!

But your logic eludes me a bit. I need to stop getting all sweaty and
jocky so my husband won't get a heart attack? Or his weekly badminton and
bicycling ought to stop as well?

Why thank you. As it happens, my husband IS considering doing the
triathlon. Are you reading my blog?

Now, when are YOU going to start getting sweaty and elevating your heart
rate every day?

Nevermind, I saw where you got that idea. He went out with me and did
the tri course yesterday with me. He's in fantastic shape from his
badminton tournaments. Flat belly, chiselled muscles, vascularization
on his arms: he makes me swoon. He's never been so healthy. His
routine is to play an hour or so of badminton (at a high level) three or
four times a week and ride a road bike two or three times a week for an
hour or so and he'll occasionally go running with me. For fun he (we)
kayak or rollerblade or hike. And we walk most places. I walk over a
mile most mornings just getting my children to school. If I have
errands to do I hop on my bike and ride a couple miles rather than
taking the car if it's at all possible.

This, by the way, is not the lifestyle I had when I was fat.

Now, when are YOU going to start getting sweaty and elevating your heart
rate every day?

I'm still waiting. What do YOU do with that God-given body of yours?

Writing on this computer makes me tired.
I guess I am fortunate that God did give me a wonderful body. I spend most
of my time looking in the mirror.
I just walk for the fresh air,--- and to show off.

So your position is that 1/2 an hour each day of strenuous exercise that
causes you to sweat makes me a.) a boring friend, b.) a show-off, c.)
endangers my husband's (and presumably my) heart and d.) triathlons,
what with the swimming and cycling thrown in, are worse than just
running every day?

Goodness knows the danger I am in, since I do a half hour of cardio six
times a week. I suppose my lifting is bad for me as well.

Keep it up and in 60 or 80 years you'll be DEAD! DEAD I say!
