Hey Suzy, just an aside, but I once actually tried to do the McDougall diet.
Can you say Mega Yuck! I don't eat a lot of animal protein, but boy did I get sick on that one. "SuzyQ" wrote in message ... http://www.nealhendrickson.com/McDougall/030900.htm -- SuzyQ Weight 124 WW Lifetime Membership Feb 03 |

I'm not a big meat eater, but McDougall is a little radical for me. I do
like to read all the benefits from all the different plans and then incorporate what I can into my plan. Lots of fruits and vegetables is the way to go for me, but not total vegan. -- SuzyQ Weight 124 WW Lifetime Membership Feb 03 "Lesanne" wrote in message t... McDougall is Abusive if you ask me, but whatever. I would Love to be
vegetarian, but have to settle for just eating high quality protein. I have tried it a lot, and I get ill after a few weeks of no animal protein at all. So I stick to the "better" choices, fish, free range poultry, occational bison. "SuzyQ" wrote in message ... I'm not a big meat eater, but McDougall is a little radical for me. Article: Vegetarian Athletes
From my learning in biology, we, humans, were designed to be
omnivorous. Neither totally carnivorous nor totally herbivorous. A healthy mix should serve us well. A friend was a vegetarian for a number of years. He started feeling awful. His NATUROPATHIC doctor did a series of tests and found that my friend was 'failing to thrive.' That naturopathic doctor told him he needed real animal protein in his diet daily - that vegetarianism was not working and his health was suffering. Now, this is probably unusual but for some folks, they need animal protein. On Sat, 04 Oct 2003 15:26:16 GMT, "Lesanne" wrote: McDougall is Abusive if you ask me, but whatever. You know I did some thinking on this once, because I have a friend who is
vegetarian and really thrives on it. And you know I am sure someone who thrives on Atkins like diets? (those also make me sick) Anyway, I wondered if genetics did not play some sort of part in this. We americans are such a mix. An extreme would be the traditional eskimo diet. I have a friend in Alaska who says the indians near where she lives were sickened when their diets changed as a result of the influx of white types. The other extreme would be the indians in Mexico who largely lived on beans and rice, then began to add fat meat to everything, got diabetes, et al. I think people really need to use trial and error to find the diet that causes them to thrive. For me it is small amounts of lean proteins and tons of fruits and veggies. I have to really watch refined stuff, makes me shaky and hyper. "Fred" wrote in message ... From my learning in biology, we, humans, were designed to be omnivorous. Good point about genetics. Extreme or even not so extreme
environments eliminated those who could not survive the food sources available.
