Blood Pressure
I have a question for the group.
I haven't been seriously on my diet too long. I had lost some weight but was just watching calories since January and as a result, it was coming off very slowly. The last two weeks, I have added daily work-outs of about an hour in the morning and a half hour in the evenings. Each day and night, I try to increase the time by five minutes. Anyway, at the same time, I am on a drug, Monopril to lower my blood pressure. Well it has been going down a lot. And this morning after I worked out for an hour and ten minutes and had of course taken my pill, I found I was getting very tired. I hadn't experienced this kind of tiredness before. I waited several hours later and took my blood pressure as usual and the top number was 105. The other number was 70. Is 105 low and do you think I should think about cutting my pills in half? I don't have another doctor's appointment until the end of December since all of my lab tests were good and this is the only medication I am taking. I was just wondering if perhaps the low reading could have made me so tired. Lately the readings have been around 112/72. Thanks guys for all the posts and support. I am really determined to get the weight off this time and check often to read the posts. Sandy |

The warnings on these pills say do not adjust medication without consulting your doctor. At the same time, diet and exercise do lower BP and the need for such pills. You may be able to give your doctor a phone call and tell him what you told us. Your doc would likely be able to resolve your issue without having you come to the office, esp. if you keep good records of your BP. My blood pressure is very close to your numbers 115/73 or so. I do not like it when it goes lower. I'd second Ig's recommendation to call your doctor. I'd watch the numbers for a week or so first, though, so you can be sure you're not reacting to a one-time thing. Also, your doctor will be more likely to take it seriously if it appears to be a consistent reading. Chris 262/130s/130s started dieting July 2002, maintaining since June 2004 |

Having a record of BP is generally helpful... When my BP goes below about 120 or so, I start feeling strange... I agree - the doc should make the call on this one though... in the mean-time, just listen to your body. There's no real problem with a blood pressure that low unless stems from a medical problem, *and* as long as you feel OK. Watch out for 'light headed-ness', 'blurred vision', and 'mental fuzziness - inability to concentrate). |
