mmm.. now that was actually pretty good
I know this probably sounds stupid - but I just tried something for
the "first" time and yes, it was actually really good. 1 cup of "Milk Plus" ... (local store brand of milk that adds extra protein and calcium to the milk. ) 100 cals, 10g protein, 14 carbs, (12 sugar), and some vitamins 1 tbs (approx) Hershey's lite syrup (25 cals, 12g carbs) 1 scoop vanilla whey powder (80 cals, 1 g carbs, 17g protein. Combine in tuperware shaker, shake, drink. Total breakdown Serving size 8oz. Cals, 205 Cals from fat 10 Carbs - 27g sugar - 23g Protein - 27g Vits/Mins A - 10% Calcium - 65% Thiamin - 35% B6 - 35% D - 25% E - 25% B12 - 35% Riboflavin - 35% Phosphorous - 30% And ya know what - it tasted pretty good. The chocolate and vanilla gave a nice taste. Adding a good source of fiber would have been good too. And a good multivitamin. Its not extremely low carb - because of the milk and chocolate. But I'm not on induction, so that doesn't affect my woe. Cost of the shake: 1/2 gal milk. - ~$2.00 (/8 = .25 per serving) 1 container of Hershey's lite syrup ~$2.00 (/30 = .07) 1 container Precision Engineered Whey protein powder - $18.00 (/41 = ..44 Total per serving = ~ 75 cents. (note - I don't know how much I paid for milk or syrup, those are a guestimate). The taste was (IMO) better than the advantage shakes I'd tried recently. A quick comparison to the slimfast powdered drink finds that slimfast is Cal - 170 Fat - 20 Carbs - 25g sugars - 12g Protein - 15 g |
