OT - snow, ice, freezing rain OH MY

Ya'll are a bunch of nutballs for actually enjoying that cold and white stuff. :-) Can't say I like the cold but I love the white stuff. One of my favorite things to do after a snowfall is to make angels in the yard. I also don't mind shoveling the driveway - it's not very longg Beverly Oh god, shoveling. George says it might snow tonight... and I just got the car "mostly" cleared off of snow. Shoveling is highly overrated. G Cynthia 262/225.5/225 We're supposed to get a little snow today but I doubt it will require any significant shoveling. I rent the other half of my double to my youngest daughter and two granddaughters. In exchange for reduced rent they do all the yard work and snow shoveling. I still get out there with the granddaughters and shovel the snow. Do you have any neighbor kids who shovel snow? When my kids were growing up they loved to see it snow as they earned extra spending money shoveling the neighborhood driveways. My grandkids have done the same thing. My neighbors at the old residence often commented on how much they enjoyed the grandkids shoveling their drives. There would be around 5 of them and they did an excellent job. The youngest was around 6 at the time and she had her shovel, too. I had neighbors call me after a heavy snow and ask if the grandkids would be coming to visit that dayg Since most of the neighbors were retired they really appreciated it. Beverly |

Isn't it just sad that those of us in the northern midwest look forward to days when the temps are simply above 0 and the 20's feel like a heatwave At least you have snow. The cold is flippin useless without snow. Jenn Grrrr I want S N O W !!!!!!! I can always bundle up - once I'm nekkid, there's nothing to do for heat. This is why I live way up north - for the mild summers. In the way we get 2-4 arctic weeks, we get about 1-2 really hot weeks in the summer and the rest is just wonderful. snip Jenn In the 6 summers we've lived here in Maine, the temperature has exceeded 90 degrees exactly 4 days - all in the summer of '97. It rarely gets above 80. We keep the winters chilly to drive off the faint of heart ;-) -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 |

Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 I have the same feeling about AC. I hate it when the weather gets so hot I have to turn the air on and shut the doors and windows. My AC doesn't come on until the temps hit the 90's around here and the nights just don't cool off enough to allow comfortable sleeping. I'm thinking about installing ceiling fans in the bedrooms to see if this would allow us to keep the AC shut off. Beverly |

Steps need clearing again and so does car. Do you have any neighbor kids who shovel snow? I had neighbors call me after a heavy snow and ask if the grandkids would be coming to visit that dayg Since most of the neighbors were retired they really appreciated it. Well, one evening a neighborhood kid showed up at the door proudly stating that he wanted me to know that he'd shoveled our walks and sidewalks. I found this quite interesting, as about 2 hours before, George had done just that, and a good job too. I had also done some of the clearing. He sort of botched... because snow had fallen again since... and it was all laying exactly where it had fallen. Not a stretch of concrete was clear. In other words, he was trying to con money out of me for a job someone else had done. I'm not sure how he figured he'd get away with this scam. At any rate, haven't seen much else in the way of neighborhood kids. And I wouldn't want them touching my car anyway. Cynthia 262/225.5/225 |

Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 Summer of '95 it was well into the 90's when we were there. Spent 1 night at the "Desert of Maine" campground with the large furry dog sleeping right between us. We ended up not sleeping, packed up around 3AM after standing in line for a shower and headed for LL Bean. It was dreadful, but luckily we found an air conditioned hotel room in Augusta to visit friends near Lewiston. Too bad you missed that one Jenn |

Well, sadly, the snow is pretty useless too. So dry that you can't make a snowball or a snowman or any kind of snow sculpture. It might be fun to ski in... except it is rather flat here. I didn't really believe the deal about how 20s felt like a heatwave... but now that I've been here a few months, I see it. If it gets into the high 20s or 30s, I'm putting on lighter gloves, leaving my jacket open, etc... Cynthia 262/225.5/225 Two words: Snow Shoes (burn lotsa calories per hour ;-)) -- Walking on . . . Every winter we have without much snow gives plumbers a lot of business and causes DH and I to have a lot more company. We had a friend last year that had their well freeze so we supplied him with drinking water for about a month. Finally took our walk on the lake today. It's a 2500 acre lake (approx) so it's a great wide open area. Took the dog and let her run wild. After about 20 minutes the cold started getting uncomfortable on the face and fingers so we had to head back. The ice is over a foot thick so we can drive the truck on it to go ice fishing. Our temps without wind are going into the negative double digits next week. Jenn |

Martha I was liking the 70 degree temps over Christmas break, but I was also on the ocean with a breeze. When we were inland and farther north, the 70's and direct sun were a bit much. I agree with Laurie - much easier to bundle up (and wear cute sweaters) and stay warm than it is to cool off. Jenn |
