Default diabetics and the South beach/Atkins type diets

I'm a very large man 460# to be truthfull. I'm also a diabetic taking
oral meds for now. I have been told that for a diabetic to go on a
"protien" diet is not good for our kidneys.

would a medical person please answer this if it is true or not??

As far as I am aware, there are no medical personal that frequent this group
that are qualified to answer your question - and as a matter of fact, I
wouldn't always trust what you read.

How about talking to your doctor? because obviously you don't know much
about the Atkins or Southbeach. They aren't "high potein". They are
normal protein and fat and limited carbs.

Atkins is no necessarily a high protein diet, it is more high fat
diet.

wrong there too, it isn't necessarily high fat, matter of fact - if you
read the book, Atkin's does have a section advising to watch the fat for
some people

Many diabetics report better control of blood sugar due to low
carbing, and lowering medications due to these effects.

That said, obviously, you need to get qualified medical advice and not
ask a bunch of strangers. Check out alt.support.diet.low-carb also,
there is plenty of diabetics there.
