Default My latest NSV...

My last set of el Cheapo £7 a throw bras from Matalan are reaching the
end of their natural lifespan, so I thought I'd visit the new posh
undies shop today and get properly fitted again... Hehehehe! Down
another size to 32F! So now I have one beautiful (if a tad pricey at
£28!) bra for Christmas, and a pile of disintegrating cruddy looking
ones! Boy, did the one I put on clean this morning (as every morning!)
look grey and tatty next to the new one! Why is it that even when you
wash them in a whites only load with cool water and best quality Persil,
they STILL go grey in the wash? I could understand it if I washed them
along with the socks and DH's jeans.

The fitting lady says I may go down another band size, but I probably
won't got down a cup size if I haven't so far (and I haven't, despite
losing over 40 lbs!). She has also ordered a few swimsuits for me to
try on: Fantasie swimsuits come in cup sizes, so I ought to be able to
find one to fit. Then I can get back to swimming - my last swimsuit has
started falling to bits as well as being way too big! NOT a pretty look
for the pool!

Ladies, please get properly fitted for your bras! It's amazing what a
difference a properly fitting bra makes! You look POUNDS thinner, stand
up straighter, and feel so much better! Why *DO* 78% of women insist on
wearing the wrong size bra?

OK, soapbox rants over for the day! ;P

It's because the cardboard in the washing liquid/powder (or whatever you
use) makes it go greyer. Overtime, cardboard in the washing liquid/powder
gets increasingly trapped in the fibres of the fabric, turning the white
fabric to grey. Washing liquid are generally better than powders and don't
use as much cardboard, but it's still there. Some empiracal research has
suggested that cheaper powders might be better at reducing the amount of
greyness overtime because they use less cardboard in the washing
liquid/powder, whereas the top branded ones use more to get the washing
cleaner - but not brighter - if that makes sense. And there is no point
using bleach to whiten your whites - overtime, bleach will turn whites to
yellow and can also destroy the fibres so your clothes fall apart.

Congrats!

Pardon going slightly off topic here, but are UK sizes different than North
America?

I agree with what you say though, most women don't wear the right size. My
previous GF refused to go to a shop to be fitted. So I had to learn what was
supposed to be right. Something that should be on the list of things guys
shouldn't have to know.

I'm not familiar with Canadian sizing, but I do know that UK sizing for
women's clothing is different from US sizing. This is true for more than
undergarments.

I think bra sizes are much the same here and there.

I cannot understand not getting bras fitted properly. I always get my
feet measured and shoes properly fitted too. I mean, why spend all that
time and money choosing stuff that doesn't fit? Things that fit
properly are so much more comfortable to wear, and usually last longer!

Shoes that don't fit properly lead to foot , leg and back problems.
Bras that don't fit lead to neck, shoulder, back and breast pain. They
also lead to ill fitting clothes and unsightly bulges. The biggest
'wrong size' problem with bras is having too big a band size for the cup
size. I *measure* 38" round the chest: only another dressmaker or a bra
fitter can tell just by looking at me that I wear a size 32 bra! I knew
I needed a fitting when all the bras I owned started lifting off my
chest wall and riding up when I reached into an over-head cupboard.

Cool. I agree with you that a good fitting bra is important. We had a lady
here in town that could tell exactly what size bra you need just by looking
at your back fully clothed. Unfortunately she retired last spring and I have
not found a good replacement shop. Victoria Secret does not carry 40+ size
bras. And I did not care for the Lane Bryant bras.
