Default learning to eat right

It occurred to me recently that I am really killing myself with my
diet. I have very bad eating habits. The problem being that I won't
eat what I don't like. And I don't like much.

Not that it matters to any of you guys, but I am really (really) going
to put forth a sincere effort to improve my diet. Making a public
declaration and putting it in writing might make it a little easier.

Light a candle for me, won't cha?

What types of food don't you like? Of we don't like foods that are healthy
such as vegetables and fruits simply because we haven't had them prepared in
a manner we like. I don't like certain raw vegetables but will eat them
cooked. It's just the opposite for other vegetables. Experiment with those
healthy foods you don't like.

Auntie Em,
I realize there can be turbulance in Kansas but maybe we here in Diet
Oz can help.

List foods you like. Try to include not only the calories dense high in
fat and sugar but amy healthy ones at all.

Well, I certainly wish you well. But -- judging from the message I
just responded to about the wine -- it sounds like you're just eating
too much in quantity, never mind the quality. If you just ate the
stuff you like but less of it, that might help. And maybe if you ate
less you'd find you gravitated more toward foods that offer more
nutritional bang for the buck?

Just a thought...

I have to agree with that. I gave up trying to eliminate the foods I love
when I realised it was more about the quantity than the foods themselves. I
was able to lose fat while still eating chocolate and red wine everyday,
though in small enough quantities not to stop my weight loss. A nice reward
to look forward to before bed.

You might find it easier just making small steps, one at a time, rather than
a massive major overhaul.

I, at least, do care. If you'd like to get more specific suggestions, why do
you let us know what areas you'd like to work on first? You are surely not
the only adult who feels the guilt and shame of not liking spinach, bananas,
whole wheat, poached fish, or the other "good stuff" we're supposed to eat.

Speaking of quantity. Yes, I do eat too much - especially for the
amount of exercise and activity I do. When I read your "diet and
exercise" every day I positively marvel at how LITTLE you eat and
still survive. I cannot imagine it. I eat more at one meal than you
eat all day!

One of the reasons I eat so much is that when I don't I am STARVING.
I don't eat a lot at one sitting, but I eat quite frequently during
the day. It isn't unusual for me to eat five or six sandwiches during
a 12 - 14 hour period in addition to a "regular meal" of meat n'
potatoes or sum such at dinner time. I don't eat because I am bored,
or feel lonely or any of those other psychological reasons, I eat
because I am hungry.

I am hoping that if I can replace some of those meals with more
nutritious foods, I might not lose weight, but at least I will be
getting better nutrition which, right now, I am not.

How did you deal with hunger issues when you were losing your weight?
