Default Counting the calories - not quite everything :-o

During the week, I've swapped tea with milk and sugar for green tea
with Splenda. As I only have two or, at most, three of these a day, and
the splenda is 2 calories, I've not bothered to log them. If I have
black tea (with M+S) I do record it though. I've given up coffee as I
like it like milk shake and, meh, I prefer tea anyway.
I also don't record the occasional glass of Pepsi Max Cino.
Is there any reason to add these to my log, other than the risk of
"well, I don't record that so I don't need to record this" slippery
slopes? I mean, between them I'm looking at well under 50 calories per
week unrecorded. Is there any benefit in keeping track of fluids
consumed?

Is there anything you don't record? What about sugar-free gum? As long
as I spit it out when I've finished, they're calorie-free aren't they?

There are similar things I don't record. I don't record the small bite
of misc that I take to get my foul tasting medecine down. I usually try
to time it with a meal/snack, but don't always manage. Lasst time I
needed something extra it was a single cheesiepoof, which is 5
calories. I also tend not to record the "demonstration" bites that my
toddler requires. She's underweight, and someone taking a tiny bte of
her cheese quesadilla is the difference between her eating well or
playing with her food and not consuming it. I do keep track of the
number of bites I take, andif it went above 10 I'd journal it.(15-20 is
around 60 calories).

However, most days I'm running 300-500 calories under my recommended
for weight loss, and the pounds are coming off pretty quickly at this
point. When the loss slows, I'll consider journaling that stuff, but am
more likely to lower my target instead.

Ho ho, the joys of toddlers! Mine used to eat *anything and everything*
but now he'll only eat toast, marmite, chips, ham, yogurt or
confectionary. Apart from when he's at school, when he'll eat anything.
He's only two, so goes half a day per week, but you ask him about his
eating at school:
Me: "Charlie, do you eat mashed potato at school?"
C: "Yes"
Me: "Do you like mashed potato?"
C: "Yes"
Me: "Will you eat mashed potato at home?"
C: "NO! I'll not eat mashed potato."
Me: "But you eat it at school..."
C: "Yes. Me naughty boy"

Bless.

That's reassuring to read. I'm coming to the end of week 1 today and I
expect to come in 2300 calories below my weight-loss net intake for the
week. Next week, I'll be upping the exercise too (move the exercise
bike infront of the PVR!). My minumum goal is to lose at least 6kg
(13lbs) per month, but I'd like to double that.

I imagine you're getting the calories in the gum just by chewing it.

I never record the sweetners, diet soda and other zero calorie food
items. I also never record the non-dairy coffee creamer I use in my
coffee. I just know my calories for the day will probably be 50 to 100
more than I record in Fitday.

I think I missed your introduction post so I'll say welcome here. I've
been off moving and dealing with the cable company trying to get my
home access setup.

Welcome to the group
Beverly

I wouldn't bother recording the tea or sugar-free gum. If you want, you
can always just estimate it at 50 calories and add that to your total
calories for the week if you so desire, but I see no reason to be so
meticulous unless you are worried that you could easily fall down the
slippery slope.

I don't generally count things that are under 10 or so calories per
serving -- like my 2 dill pickle slices in my turkey burger, or
mustard on sandwiches. And I don't count catsup, though I probably
should, as I do count even the fat-free salad dressings. This has
been what I've been doing forever (or anyway for 4 years now), so I
just keep doing it the same way.
