High Fructose Corn Syrup --- Considerably More Weight Gain - long
if fructose would trigger obesity why do fruit eating monkeys not get fat?
Could it be due to factors such as: The fiber in fruits slows down the absorption of fructose which is essentially considered a toxin by the liver. This would give the liver more time to metabolize the fructose. Fruits also provide antioxidants that may neutralize ROS created during the detoxification of fructose. Fruits provide various chemicals that supress the production of ROS via Nox by inhibiting PKC. Fruits provide fermentable fiber and its by- products, short-chain fatty acids also inhibit PKC. When the liver is stressed, it probably releases chemicals (ie uric acid) that signals other parts of body (ie endothelial) to generate more ROS (ie via Nox). See following link for: Adverse effects of the classic antioxidant uric acid in adipocytes: NADPH oxidase-mediated oxidative/nitrosative stress http://ajpcell.physiology.org/cgi/co...act/293/2/C584 |

there is typically no fruit. Enjoy it while you can. Lucky for me, the grocery store stocks blueberry on their shelves nearly year round Pediatric Research: April 2010 Fructose, but Not Dextrose, Induces Leukocyte Adherence to the Mesenteric Venule of the Rat by Oxidative Stress Abstract Recent evidence indicates that fructose is a pro-inflammatory molecule. Oral fructose induces serum and kidney inflammatory intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in rats. Fructose also induces ICAM-1 expression in human aortic endothelial cells (HAEC) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 in proximal tubular renal cells. It is not known whether fructose may directly promote inflammation on the intestinal microcirculation. Accordingly, using intravital microscopy we studied the effect of topical fructose and dextrose on leukocyte adherence to the mesenteric venule of the rat. Leukocyte adherence was determined during a control period and after fructose was added to the mesentery, in the presence or absence of the NO donor spermine NONO- ate (SNO), and after i.v. injection of the antioxidant lipoic acid (LA). In separate experiments, we examined the effect of topical dextrose on leukocyte adherence to the mesenteric venule. Venular shear rate was calculated. Fructose, but not dextrose, induced significant inflammation independent of shear rate. This effect was completely blocked by SNO and LA, suggesting that fructose induces inflammation via reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. These results suggest that fructose present in formulas may adversely affect the intestinal microcirculation of premature infants and potentially contribute to the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). |

Lucky for me, the grocery store stocks blueberry on their shelves nearly year round We were talking about the real world, Bozo, you know, sun up, sun down, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The real world where plants blossom, grow, fruit, and wither, not the human veneer that we pretend is real, because it is only as real as we can make it, and when we are gone, there will be the real world again. The world that we were born into, and found contemptible. However, it may be of aid to the rest of us, if you eat as much fructose as possible, bon appétit. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." - Benito Mussolini. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arn3lF5XSUg http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Zinn/HZinn_page.html |

Lucky for me, the grocery store stocks blueberry on their shelves nearly year round Planes, trains, trucks and ships are such wonderfull things to be able to bring us fresh blueberries from Chile in the middle of the northern hemisphere's winter. There's a sublte advantage to veggies from distant sources - The mineral content of regional food can be deficient in specific trace minerals. While we should not assume that veggies have the expected minerals because of modern farming methods, modern import farming offsets that problem. It's a small but real advantage. |

Commercial agriculture destroys top soil. Chemical fertilizers, and pesticides reduce phytonutrients (anthcyanins, flavonoids, ect.). Shipping consumes fossil fuels, pollutes the environment, reduces nutrients, and increases the chance of contamination.
