"Patricia Heil" wrote in message ... This tracks with the experience of my ex-sister-in-law. She got diarrhea. I didn't know about the headaches. I get migraines so that's one more reason (besides the risk to my cholesterol) for me never to even consider this. Eating low-carb may cause diarrhea because gut microbes depend on carbs to live. Because of this, this method is sometimes used to treat candida yeast infections. It passes in a few days. If you have grain headaches you should consider a low-carb diet. A recent study in the journal "Neurology" showed a 90% remission of migraine headaches when grain was eliminated from the diet ( they're not my grain headaches they're your grain headaches. Citation? I was unable to turn up anything in Neurology online. Dan 325/199/180 Atkins since 1/1/02 (yeah, it was a New Year's Resolution) Besetting sins: good beer, German bread, and Krispy Kremes |

Now that I'm on the "outside loop," I see how insane the Atkins diet is. I roll my eyes when I see a new low-carb product advertised on TV... it's just not healthy. There are aspects of the insane in those fake "low carb products", I do agree with you. Many of them not only taste like crap but are full of questionable ingredients anyway, thus pretty much defeating the purpose of a healthy lifestyle. However, a low carb diet doesn't need to have any fake foods in it at all. Eating natural foods while eschewing refined sugar and starchy grains is a good thing. I'm not "on Atkins" but I got many of my ideas for low-carbing from reading the books. Low-carb dieting is a great self-contained appetite suppressant, and healthy meal maker all at the same time. How do you know its not the other way around? That this Atkins stuff
isn't the quackery that the food industry is peddling now, regardless of the health of the public? The Atkins diet is convenient for Americans. Americans have come to believe that steak, pork chops, butter, whole milk, etc., in unlimited, gargantuan ammounts, are their birth rights and they feel "cheated" if anybody tells them otherwise (donuts too, but most people would rather forgo the donut in favor of the meat- it's more manly). In short, Atkins tells them things they desperately want to hear. You can eat all the bad foods and never get fat. I just want to know how the Atkins folks plan on feeding a world full of 9 billion people who want to eat pork chops, and bacon-wrapped-cheese at every meal? Oh wait... a couple billion are going to have to starve. "No manioc and yuca for you little man, we need it to feed our herds". |
