How do you know its not the other way around? That this Atkins stuff
isn't the quackery that the food industry is peddling now, regardless of the
health of the public?

The Atkins diet is convenient for Americans. Americans have come to
believe that steak, pork chops, butter, whole milk, etc., in unlimited,
gargantuan ammounts, are their birth rights and they feel "cheated" if
anybody tells them otherwise (donuts too, but most people would rather forgo
the donut in favor of the meat- it's more manly). In short, Atkins tells
them things they desperately want to hear. You can eat all the bad foods
and never get fat.

I just want to know how the Atkins folks plan on feeding a world full of
9 billion people who want to eat pork chops, and bacon-wrapped-cheese at
every meal? Oh wait... a couple billion are going to have to starve. "No
manioc and yuca for you little man, we need it to feed our herds".

I have real problems with any diet that tells me that an apple and a

Well, I'm not on Atkins, but I do eat a much lower carb diet than many here.
Speaking only from personal experience, an apple and a nice bowl of oatmeal
for breakfast would leave me absolutely ravenous long before lunchtime,
whereas a breakfast with a significant amount of fat and protein, with the
same number of calories, satisfies me through the morning. So in that
sense, the apple and a nice bowl of oatmeal *is* bad for me, or at least for
my weight loss - if that's what I had for breakfast, I'd need to eat more
calories to get through the day.

Horse pucky!
Atkinsonians can have fish, other seafood, egg whites, nuts, zucchini
noodles, white chicken, veal, fabulous salads with light olive oil
dressing, homemade lactose free yogurt made with partly skimmed milk
and as the King of Siam once said etcetera, etcetera, etcetera

Ok now that is just dumb. Please think about what you are saying.

Those foods are not "bad". However that does not mean you eat them in
"gargantuan ammounts" either.

every meal? Oh wait... a couple billion are going to have to starve. "No
manioc and yuca for you little man, we need it to feed our herds".

There is no need to eat them at every meal nor are 9 billion people
going to want to. The fact that people are starving in the world has
absolutely NOTHING to do with there not being enough food. There is
plenty of food and wealth it just happens to be obscenely
consolidated. If the powers that be wished to end world hunger it
would be a simple matter. The fact is they do not. It is not because
of Atkins. It is called capitalism and imperialism. For someone to
try and blame Atkins for world hunger is quite childish and silly.

A modest, simple diet which includes animal source foods is best.
This has been the diet of pre industrialized primitive societies
through thousands of years of human history. The things you are
saying involve personal choice and have nothing to do with Atkins or a
healthy diet. If some people chose to eat in the reckless manner you
describe( and i doubt many do) that is their own choice. I do not
think even Atkins claimed that a diet such as his "induction faze"
diet should be continued once optimal weight was achieved.

Just a suggestion........try actually reading the book rather than basing
your ridiculous opinions on tabloid type media reports.

Well, you have to give Ray a break here, Dan. He's probably never been in a
