While I'm always happy to see growing awareness of low-carbing, it seems to
me that these "new" products are the same as you could get before...just a
burger without a bun. The only possible difference is that they are
specifically wrapping the burger in lettuce. No price break, though, which
is what I was expecting.

"Prices of both burgers will be identical to their conventional, same-sized
mates."

Just a publicity thing, I guess.

Elsewhere in the article I find it interesting that a nutritionist is
bashing the idea, saying people should concentrate on lowering fat and
calories instead. Yet the "new" burgers are vastly lower in both fat and
calories.

"For the record, the low-carb Thickburger has about 420 calories, 32 grams
of fat and 5 grams of carbs, compared with its original's 850 calories and
57 fat grams. The low-carb Six Dollar Burger has 490 calories, 37 grams of
fat and 6 grams of carbs. The regular? About 960 calories, 62 fat grams and
61 carbohydrate grams."

Yeah...I had one the day before yesterday...same thing except they keep the
bun and don't use the heavy box. Obviously, they are attempting to cash in
on LC and improve efficiency.

IMO, they don't use enough lettuce to wrap the burger, at least for the
burger I had.

This makes no sense at all unless they have made the burgers much smaller.
What could account for all these calories and fat - certainly not just a bun.
I've never had a Carl's or Hardees - anyone out there have a clue?

According to the website, the orignal 1/3 lb thickburger as 740 calories.
about 50 gram of fat, and 40 carbs.

The 1/2 lb Six dollar burger has about 900 kcals. 62 fat grams and 45 carbs.

if you leave off the bun, ketchup, and onions from a regular 1/3 lb thick
burger, you get about 480 kcals. If they use more lettuce on the low-carb
version, it won't account for 60 calories....Maybe with onions and ketchup,
however.

Do onions have significant carbs?

I've tried the low carb Thickburger from Hardee's... don't forget the
processed cheese slice in there, as well as a dollop of mayo, those
are going to add more calories and fat. It also does have ketchup. a
tomato slice and onions. Now, if they'd find a way to put sugar free
ketchup on it, they'd probably cut most of those carbs, because it
seemed to me there was a *lot* of ketchup. But, as a low-carber, I
have to admit I loved the thing. I'll definitely have another one.

Oh, and a note for anybody that likes them, they're only for a limited
time according to the signs at Hardee's, so you better let them know
you like it and want to keep it on the menu or it'll go the way of
other "limited time" offerings... out the door.
