Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy your family and friends and not worry about
gaining a few ounces of weight.

Enjoy the day and jump back on track the following day.

I'm not interested in what I weigh the day after Thanksgiving (my weight can
fluctuate day by day), but I do want to feel good at the end of the day, and
not overstuffed and regretful. So I will focus on eating as healthy as
possible, and I've already planned what "non-food-plan" foods I will have a
small portion of (my mother's onion-cheese bread for one). I am making a
few plain vegetable dishes that I can load my plate up with, and am also
making a cranberry-orange-walnut muffin recipe that uses Splenda.

That's sensible. I personally will eat thanksgiving meal (we'll cook
turkey and something else), but will try not to overeat. Thanksgiving
is a day to appreciate what we have, broadly speaking, not necessarily
a day to stuff the piehole with as much food as possible. One thing
that I will be thankful about is my weight loss, it would be illogical
to celebrate it with overeating.

There is a happy medium between being somewhat relaxed and watching what you
eat without being obessed over gaining a few ounces of weight and "stuffing
the piehole." When you figure that out you might enjoy life a bit more.

The girls and I made up our menu yesterday then hit the grocery store. We
came up with healthier choices, compared to last year. I also planned for
smaller portions and bought accordingly, ie: 3 medium potatoes instead of 5
pound bag for mashed potatoes, one box of stovetop stuffing instead of 3.
Since I delayed my shopping, I did end up with a 20 pound turkey. I have
lost 2 of those since May~~amazing!! I was hoping for a smaller bird, I
hate to pick turkey bones. (Side light: I quit my job this school year as a
elementary school cook, last year at Thanksgiving I cooked and deboned ten
20 pound birds, eeew!)
I'm with you Mary, I don't want to overeat and be regretful, hate that
feeling more than having a plate piled high. Looking forward to getting
through to New Year's without the 5-10 pound gain I used to experience.
Good luck to all, enjoy the day.

It sounds like you have a great plan, Trixie! I can't imagine cooking and
deboning 10 turkeys -- and congratulations on losing two of those turkeys!
:-) I never thought I could get through Thanksgiving-New Year's without
gaining (usually 10-15 lbs for me -- I gain weight amazingly quickly when
eating foods that are high in both empty carbs and fat). But last year I
stayed pretty much even (then started gaining in late January and had real
trouble sticking to my plan until just two weeks ago!), and the year before
I actually lost weight between Thanksgiving - New Year without feeling
deprived at all. So I know I can get through this if I stay focused on my
plan 90-95% of the time!

thanks for sharing that Mary, I feel encouraged. This time of year can be
such a head trip in so many ways. There are so many "must haves" and "have
to bes" when it comes to Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions, in my own
life personally, that I am trying to shed/be free from, because I don't
enjoy most of them, and the holidays should be enjoyed for pity's sake! I'm
learning to enjoy my family at the holidays more than the food that goes
with the holidays.
Focus on the family, not the food trixie!! ~~~I think I'll print that out
for myself.

I do not want to overeat and feel terrible and be regretful either.

By the way, I found a 9 1/2 lbs turkey yesterday at Sam's club. We
always had a huge pile of turkey meat left over that we did not know
what to do with.

we have a few family favorites, turkey curry and turkey salad, that we'll
make with the leftovers. I'll probably freeze some for soup too. I have
been cooking daily just what we need with proper portions (for my family,
YMMV) to avoid leftovers or 2nd helpings, except for veggies, I'm just not
looking forward to having there be leftovers.
Ah, the joy of cooking with turkey, LOL

ig, if I can not gain this holiday season, it'll be a mini goal sucess for
me!

Well, we all know that day to day weight changes don't mean anything,
so I don't see that weighing yourself Friday morning will tell you
anything useful. Now, if you find that you're steadily higher for the
next week or two, that might mean you've gained weight.

We're going to our country club for a Thanksgiving dinner buffet.
I'll eat as much as I want there, and then go back to eating as I
usually do. This way we won't have leftovers to contend with :-).

If I gain a few ounces it won't worry me; I know I can lose it easily.

We like having turkey leftovers. We roasted a turkey last week and
have been enjoying the leftovers since then. We use it to make soup,
turkey hash, sandwiches, etc., and I take meat to work to put in a
salad at lunch time. DH likes dark meat and I like only white, so it
works out well :-).
