Nutmeg - What Do I Do With It?

I was recently given a half pound of gourmet nutmeg. What the heck do
I do with it. It does not smell like it would be good on a hard boiled
egg. The only thing that rings a bell is egg nog : )

It's quite nice if you're creating sweet pancakes.

pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, bread pudding, etc. All that stuff that us
LCers don't eat too often.

A sweet potato or pumpkin pie sweetened with splenda might work for the
holidays, provided you plan your carb/calorie intake.....

I too would like to know of some other uses for nutmeg....maybe Bob P. will
check in....

Ohhhhh... nutmeg is a wonderful thing!! I put it in my meatballs and
my beef stroganoff (over green beans) and my italian wedding soup and
my shepherd's pie. It's also great on cooked carrots, sweetpotatoes &
squash. I actually don't put it in eggs, but it is essential in
french toast.

Yes, I realize most of that is verboten

It may be a bit of an acquired taste with beef, but to me it adds an
exotic and luxurious note. I have been fussed at for adding too
much... a little does go a long way, and like saffron (another of my
favs), if you use too much it can overpower your other ingredients.
Experiment! and consider yourself lucky to have received such a
wonderful gift

The one recipe I do regularly that uses it is protein pancakes.
Hmmm... maybe I should try it in my protein shakes?

that one often any more), Turkey Soup - can you tell I'm a big soup

A little nutmeg is great in many meat dishes - gravies and casseroles
or stews work very well with nutmeg or cinnamon (or both). Just a
hint - you *know* you know that flavour but you just can't quite place
it...

I love my nutmeg. Sadly, it's turning out to be difficult to find the
whole nutmegs in my area lately, and the pre-ground stuff is just not
quite as nice as fresh-milled in my Nutmeg Grater.
