Day 19 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
Day 19 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
253/240/195 Got on my scale a few minutes ago and found that two more pounds were gone - so thus far, 13 pounds are gone in 19 days. I know that the weight loss will slow greatly over time, but it is fun watching the pounds go away. I knew last night that I probably would weigh less this morning and that was fun to wake up to. I went up my little hill last night with my 25 pound weight in my backpack and made it up in 30 minutes exactly (30 seconds off my best before that) with only nose-breathing. It was quite a bit easier than several days ago and acclimation to the task has been quite fast. Had about 900 calories yesterday all in a dinner. I'm happy with that. Several years ago on ASD I surveyed people who had lost a lot of weight about the importance of the various techniques they employed and these are the results of that survey. (I find it quite useful.) ********** 11-6-02 Reposting of the results of survey of several days ago. (If anyone else would like to add things, I'll incorporate it into an update of the results.) Also, I noticed an error in the frequency that the good "losers" weighed themselves. 15 people answered. The following is a ranking of the importance of the following items (higher number indicating greater importance): 1. Increasing exercise - 9.9 2. Restricting calories - 8.6 3. Attempting to keep one's approach simple - 7.5 4. Regular weighing - 7.1 5. Restricting portion size - 7.0 6. Emphasizing weight training - 6.6 7. Getting help from those in one's environment - 5.5 8. Restricting carbohydrates - 5.2 9. Avoiding tempting situations - 5.2 10. Following a low-fat diet - 4.7 11. Using measures other than weight scales - 4.4 12. Restricting food choices - 4.0 (The order of the above was unchanged with the last person's data entered.) Correction on my previous posting -- the median number of times a month people weighed themselves was 30. This indicates that in the range of numbers indicating how often people weighed themselves, the number "30" was in the middle. (A lot of people did not specify how many times a month they weighed themselves, but of the people who did, "30" was the median.) .... Among other interesting responses were the different ways of measuring progress, including tape-measures, percent body-fat, how clothes fit, waist-band fit, etc. In terms of general suggestions, the following were suggested by people: keeping a positive outlook, emphasizing health, striving for consistency over time with calorie deficits, a free day a week during which one doesn't worry too much about calories, a Zig-Zag approach, avoiding foods that are packaged and/or advertised, etc. Again, a very interesting survey! Thanks for everyone's input! Yours, Caleb ****************** It seems to me that it's the old "tried and true" approaches that have worked for people over time. Anyway, have a great month and I hope every finds an approach that works for her/him and sticks with it long enough to reach their goals! Yours, Caleb |
