Default Aha and DUH!

How come every three months, when it's about time for my Depo-Provera shot,
I'm always puzzled and surprised by water retention, bloating, and
cravings? You'd think I'd be used to it and expecting it by now. I just
hope I get a whoosh after my shot next week, lol.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

Today started my TOM. I stepped on the scale this afternoon - I am down 1.5
lbs since 1 July and hoping that with the TOM I an maybe lose a couple more
before the end of the month. I haven't really been counting carbs. I
completely cut out soda with sugar, almost all drinks with processed sugar.
Very rarely eat pasta, potatoes or rice at all anymore. I may eat one or
two fries from my daughter when she has them - but that is more than enough.
I just don't have those types of cravings. I did have 2 candy bars this
weekend (my carbs for the day pretty much and my TOM). I figured I would
eat them because if I didn't - Ii would keep eating stuff until the
chocolate craving was gone (only happens during that TOM). Usually the only
thing that works is the real stuff - and I am still down 1.5 lbs. I do try
to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. I am not losing as fast as some
of you in here. That is ok with me as long as I keep losing - slowly or
faster. It didn't go on overnight and it ain't coming off overnight. I
know - some will say increase the exercise. I am slowly working up to
exercising again. Between Sep '97 and Mar '03, I had 6 surgeries (3 hip
surgeries including 1 total hip replacements, 2 arthro knee surgeries, and a
hammer toe surgery). Because of the hip problems, I have been advised by
the ortho surgeon to never run again. So basically I've had no exercise
since before my first hip break (at the age of 36 with no known medical
explanation). That didn't help to keep my weight off. I went through a
nasty divorce during that same time frame. I was depressed for awhile, had
panic attacks, so watching my weight was of little concern. I didn't care.
Things are looking up. I have actually been to the gym at least once a week
for the last 3-4 weeks. My daughter goes to college in Aug. I don't have
to cook for her anymore - makes eating healthy easier. I want to lose
weight now. I started lc around 1 Feb. Didn't do induction - just started
cutting back on all the carby stuff (besides - that is what my PCP told me
would be best - she actually mentioned Atkins). At the time - I had high BP
and low blood sugar. I have lost 20.5 lbs. My bp is back to normal and
with the lc - I have almost no episodes of extremely low BG where I get
physically ill. I didn't mean to go on - but once I got typing - I couldn't
stop and hope my story can inspire at least one person to not give up - just
because they can't follow the lc diet as strict as a lot of people do. I
see a lot of messages about cheating. Why is it cheating if I splurge on
something with carbs in the morning and eat almost none the rest of the day?
Isn't the overall effect to cut carbs enough every da to lose weight? If
you are cutting carbs and losing weight - whatever speed it comes off - it
is better than gaining or not losing.

Started LC around 1 Feb

Today 204.5 (and TOM)

It's only cheating if you're going off the plan you've set up for yourself.
If your plan forbids certain foods, and you eat them anyway in a moment of
weakness, that's "cheating." But if your plan includes higher carb foods
within certain limits, and you follow your plan, then you're not cheating.
It sounds like what you're doing is working for you. Your body, your plan.
Your plan would not work for my body, because I am too weak to handle the
cravings I get when I eat high carb stuff.

Heh! You know I've been tracking my food intake, exercise, etc., in an Excel
spreadsheet since I started low-carbing. After a while, I started color-coding
dates on my "stats" worksheet to show PMS and which days I was on my period.
After a few months, I added a THIRD color code for my EXPECTED start of period so
that I would at least clue myself in as to when to expect the water weight gain
and whatever crankiness might crop up :-) I'm 2 days overdue, so DON'T ****
WITH ME! :-)

Hi Saffire. Is there anything I can do for you? Shine your shoes? Wash
your car? Clean your house? Anything. Anything at all.

I woke up to my TOM, so you can come out of your corner now :-) Of course,
offers to wash my car and clean my house are ALWAYS welcome, regardless of the
TOM :-)

Whew! Actually, I was only using those offers as an attempt to save my
life. G
