Yes, it's that bad.... That's because you got it wrong. Lead isn't quite dense enough, and most people have no experience with it. I didn't invent the question, and i assumed who ever did use lead as lead is known to be heavy as in "heavy as lead." Try asking "Which weighs more, a pound of goose feathers or a pound of gold?" and see who gets the right answer. I bet the same % will answer the lb of gold weighs more. Your 'old prof' would be proud of you Brinks. Maybe that could be the subject of your next seminar to the medical profession. |

The feathers are heavier. An avoirdupois pound (in which feathers are weighed) is heavier than a troy pound (in which gold is weighed). |

People in your circle of friends have experience with pounds of goose feathers and pounds of gold? Some. You have weird friends, Seth. Well, yes. But it's a better trick question my way, independent of actual experience. Seth -- Note to self: a powerlifting meet is not a recommended taper for a track event. --Ted K. |

In article , Suze suze_anderson@spamcop/dot/obvious wrote: Will: BMI is essentially worthless, especialy to anyone athletic. I agree; see below. You agree but you mention BMI as it related to the gals on that page? BMI only takes height and weight into account which is what it seemed like you were doing in insisting that a 100# 5' 1" female is -always- "bony". I was pointing out that BMI (i.e., just height/weight) doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. None of the people in the pics would be in the "skinny-fat" catagory and carry more LBM and lower BF then the average woman. ...meaning that, if anything, they should be able to carry a bit more scale weight / have a higher BMI than 'the average woman'. Exactly. But yet, some of them are actually at the same (or lower) BMI than the example of a 100# 5' 1" female would be. How exactly have you decided they would have equiv or lower BMI? By the stats on some of their pages. "Will, since that's your opinion, then why would you have your site ('friends' section) link to the webpages of some females that have equivalent BMIs (or lower) according to their stats?" It's also irrelevant. What they have is lower BF and a higher LBM, and even if it corresponds to another women, they will have lower risk of sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and many other ills. I don't disagree. |
