Default OK to NOT eat breakfast?

I've never liked eating breakfast, really. I've been told its good to eat
early to "get the metabolism moving" and what not. And while that may be
true, does it offset those calories you consumed if you weren't eating it? I
tried munching on some nuts and cheeze for a few days this week and honestly
it didn't make me feel any different throughout the day, so I think its just
extra calories I don't want to eat. Any thoughts on breakfast?

Same here. I'd buy a pastry and eat it around 10:30 or 11, or just skip it and
eat nothing until lunch.

I thought like you until I went low-carb. I really, really hated breakfast,
and was annoyed that I had to eat it on this WOE. And I'm still not eating
much, and I'm not eating it early -- I'll have a 1/3 cup of cottage cheese and
cinnamon, or a small bowl of flax flakes around 9:30, which isn't much earlier
than 10:30. And considering I get up around 5:30 or 6, I'm not eating right
away.

But I'm sort of mellowing on breakfast. I *do* notice a difference in my
energy level with breakfast. By 9:30, I want something to eat, even if it
isn't much. And I'm eating smaller lunches, so the calories probably balance
out. I think it keeps me from being hungrier later.

I'd give it more of a try. Find something you like -- are you really
interested in cheese and nuts, or is that what you've resigned yourself to? I
was having smoked salmon for a while, because I love smoked salmon and figured
I needed to have something good if I was going to force myself to eat
breakfast. Anyway, give it a couple of weeks. Then if you still feel the same
way, you'll know you're not a breakfast eater.

If I hadn't changed so dramatically myself, I wouldn't be suggesting you give
it more of a try. But I do feel like it makes a huge difference.

I've never ever ever been a believer in that. What's so magical about the
hours in which you first get up? I "get the metabolism moving" whenever
the heck I start eating, whether that time is 7:30 am or 11:00 a.m.

I fail to see the magic. I can see the "skipping breakfast is bad" hoopla
if one is HUNGRY in the morning, and PURPOSELY skips breakfast in spite of
said hunger, thus leading to a potential binge. But if someone isn't
hungry right away, they shouldn't feel obligated to conform to what is,
IMO, merely a ritual.

I lost my weight by listening to my body. Sometimes that included eating
with an hour of rising, sometimes it didn't.

Great point, I will try smaller lunches/smaller breakfasts for a while.
Since going low carb, it seems any amount of the foods I'm eating fill me
up. It was mostly the convenience thing of just eating at lunch/dinner.
Sometimes I do feel hungry in the mid mornings, but the feeling goes away if
I ignore it. Thanks for the food ideas too.

I don't know beans (green beans, of course) about getting the metabolism
going, but those of us who are diabetic do need to eat as soon as possible
after waking up, or our blood sugars get way out of control. Not
disagreeing with you, CM, just adding on to what you said.

I'm a recent breakfast convert. My schedule is a little odd since right
now I only work 2pm to 6pm, so I usually get up around 11. If I don't eat
"breakfast" before I leave, then when I get home I'm so hungry that I'm
prone to overeat, or very tempted to make bad food choices.

FIction.

I rarely eat breakfast; when I do I'm hungry all day. When I don't I don't
get hungry and never even think about food until lunch time. Brakfast gets
the metabolism going all right; makes me hungry all day!

YMMV of course.

Many people have been so indoctrinated into the myth that it's bad not to
eat breakfast that they freak at the thought of skipping it. I imagine that
on the traditional low-fat diet they would get hungry skipping an meal,
though.

Please qualify statements like that, Carol, by making it clear that you're

I'm T2 diabetic and I have absolutely no problems with blood sugar from not
eating breakfast, (I rarely do). In fact, when I do eat breakfast is when
my blood sugar starts to swing back and forth and make me hungry all day!

I'm not disparaging your comments at all; however, it must be a YMMV thing
because my experience is apparently exactly the opposite of yours!

Okey-dokey. Sorry about that. I'm glad you pointed it out. For me, if I
don't eat breakfast, I'm in the 150s and 160s by lunch time. YMMV G
