OT Just quit smoking!
Ok, yes, I know it's not technically tomorrow yet, so I'm a bit early. But
I got sleepy and I wanted to get everything prepared before I went to bed. Part of my plan is to wake up fresh tomorrow with no cigarettes or half-smoked butts in the house. All the ashtrays in the house are now empty, butts in the trash, dirty soapy sink water poured over them. I even crumbled up and threw out 12 whole, fresh, cigarettes I didn't get around to smoking today. Since it's freezing outside and it's the middle of the night, I thought I'd leave the car ashtray until tomorrow. But then I thought, hey, if you were out of smokes, you'd sure as hell go out in that weather to drive to the store and get them, so you get your ass out there and clean out that ashtray right now. So I did. I feel better for it, even though I can't feel my ears right now. Oh, and no more whiny excuses about not being able to lose weight and quit smoking at the same time. If, despite the recently increased exercise and stricter diet, my weight goes up anyway, I'll deal with it without going back to smoking. I've read success stories on the stop smoking group, and even though lots of people gained weight temporarily, lots of them were able to lose it. And, my trainer at the Y actually lost weight when he quit smoking, since his greater lung capacity meant he could work out longer and harder without choking. So, bottom line is, I'll try my hardest not to regain, but if I do anyway I'll lose it again. I can do this. As long as I don't have to give up coffee and biting my nails too, I think I'll be ok. -- Michelle Levin http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws. |

Best of luck to you, Michelle! My friend Susan quit smoking and went low carb at the same time, about 1.5 years ago. She stayed off both smokes and carbs and lost half her weight, down from 270 to 135 now. Unfortunately, she started smoking again (partly my fault, I think). A new year's resolution is to quit again, both of us. I might change my mind, though. LOL! |
