I leave my bag out on the floor in the coat closet area. I don't bring
anything valuable into the gym with me besides my MP3 player and I wear
that. My gym bag, while unattended, has my street clothes, a towel and
a few toiletries in it. I carry my keys with me (along with a notebook
and water bottle and the towel I pick up in the workout room.)

Is there such a problem with having street clothes stolen that you feel
you can't leave them? My bag is a bit too large to fit in lockers so I
don't even bother doing that anymore.

Gosh - I feel like such a slug with such a short workout - but it was
better than nothing... And a good start to getting back into the
swing of things.

That's the way I'd look at it. Having a layoff for injury or vacation
or whatever doesn't matter in the scheme of things - in fact, it's
useful to prevent over-training. What counts is that you get back INTO
working out. You're doing great!

It definitely was better than nothing. After last week's medicinal
difficulties and taking a few days off from the workout, I found that I am
pretty much starting from square 1 and building my way back up. I decided
to ease up on the intensity of things temporarily in case I really am burned
out and it's really helped. I went from running 15-20 miles per week to my
current tally for this week 4.5 with a 3 mile run planned for Sat. AM.

You'll be back up to speed in no time.

Hi JayJay,

Great job on hitting the gym. It's a bit intimidating the first time in a
long time. It sounds like you did great for getting on the elliptical for
fifteen minutes. You'll find it gets easier with time, and no need to over
due it till your knee is better. I hope your son has fun playing soccer.
My son is four and he is really getting into it.

You take care and keep up the great work,

Paul

For the first time in what seems like ages, I finally made it to the
gym last night. By the time I dropped DS off at soccer, changed,
got my clothes and personal items stowed away (I put them out in my
car instead of in the locker in the gym) and made it in to the actual
workout facility, I didn't have much time. DH was with me - he
headed for the free weights to do upper body. Me, I headed for the
elliptical. I figured I'd give it a try for a warmup before I hit the
machines for an upper body.

Keeping my knee in mind the entire time.

Started out at level 1 for 1 min to warm up, then up to level 2.
Keepiny that knee in mind. It didn't hurt. The gym was packed (it
was the 5:30 - 6pm hr) and all the weight machines were in use, so I
decided to stick it out and upped to level 3.

I went for 15 mins on the machine, then DH came over to say he was
whooped and was going out to watch DS play in the 3 on 3 practice.

I decided to call it quites too, as the machines were still pretty
busy and figured I'd had enough.

Gosh - I feel like such a slug with such a short workout - but it was
better than nothing... And a good start to getting back into the

Hey at least you now know that you CAN do elliptical w/out hurting your
knee. That is a lot of progress compared to where you were a couple of
weeks ago. You don't have to take giant leaps. Baby steps work too and you
are in no rush. Great news!

Jayjay:

It looks like it should be another wonderful FL weekend w/ temps in
the mid to upper 70's - awesome for daytime workouts. And the even
better news. Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend!!!!!! I get
my outdoor evening workouts back!!!! YEAHHHHHHHH

Yeah, right. grumble If we didn't have this chilly rain making it feel
so raw out, I'd be more excited. It's not supposed to get any better
till Monday. I promise to improve my attitude.

Awe - you're in newenglandmudseason right now, aren't you. They

I wouldn't mind the rain or the mud if it would just warm up a little. I
totally love the cold but this raw, damp 35-45 degrees is annoying. The
year I lost weight, I walked outside every day beginning on Feb.20. Of
course, I had all that extra blubber to keep me warm. Oh well, at least
I have the treadmill now.

Awww it was 82 here today and 81 yesterday in Dallas! I spent all last
night and all day today helping my mom move her stuff into the new house I
just bought. I am so freaking sore and my back and knees are killing me. I
am glad to hear that you are down to your prehoneymoon weight!!

I got outside for a little while today (Saturday) when a client didn't
show: I walked downtown to a tanning booth and spent 15 minutes in the
sun. I don't know if it's any good for my skin, but it sure does help
my mood!

After going to town for salad and fruit yesterday, I had my husband drop
me off 5 miles from home and I walked back. 40 degrees, no rain, gray -
it wasn't too bad. I'm all psyched to walk after supper tonight.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed that there's no precip? Right now,
the SUN seems too much to ask for.

Is it snowing yet, Dally?
