My body's playing catch up
I stepped on the scale this morning not really expecting anything. I saw
"187". I stepped off the scale, waited a few seconds and got back on, "187". I actually tried it two more times because I could not believe that I could drop another pound over the course of one day. But looking back over my food and exercise log, my body "owed" me that pound. I guess it just decided to drop the water weight that was taking its place. I did pee what seemed like gallons yesterday. The laws of physics apply even to me. :-) It does get discouraging when I'm doing everything "right" and the weight doesn't budge. Then something like this happens and my patience and diligence is rewarded. Don't give up folks. If it seems like your efforts are for naught, they aren't. Your body will "play catch up" eventually too. Of course, you have to have that calorie deficit daily (with only rare splurge meals) and do a good amount of exercise almost everyday. My body's playing catch up
Way to go Tonia,
Congrats on losing that extra pound and the thirty-four pounds in all. Keep up the great work. Paul 300/199/175 "That T Woman" wrote in message ... Tonia 221/187!/130 Again, congrats! And I wholeheartedly agree, as something similar happened to me this past week. By last weekend, I had gotten down to 237 (my current mini-goal is to hit 235 before my next doctor's appointment on the 15th). I do try to keep the splurge meals down, but had my favorite broasted chicken for dinner on Sunday (I used to eat it at least 2x per week; I guess I thought fried chicken was a food group). The next day my weight shot up to 240, which had me really down. Still, I kept on with my regular 1500-1550 calories per day and kept walking; today I'm back down to 237, teetering on 236, whee!! Thankfully I had read JayJay's advice to Dewolla in the "Week 12 and still going!" thread yesterday that really helped me out: "What happened is - you retained water. Water that will go away in a couple of days after getting back to your usual routine." Great advice, and as Tonia says, keep up the good stuff and your body will catch up. (This is also a good reason to stay off of the scale, but I'm so bad about that.) Thanks again, youse two... ;-) -- J.J. in WA State (Change COLD to HOT for e-mail) Start of diet : 251 Current Weight : 237 Original Weight: 275 Goal Weight : 150 I like to weight every day - I just don't figure that if the scale is up a pound that I gained anything but water. When I lose I adjust my calorie budget in the spreadsheet I keep so that I'll keep losing and the losses do show up . . . eventually. Thanks for all the kind words, folks! Tonia |

Tonia 221/187!/130 Way to go, Tonia! My experience agrees with yours entirely. I've had lots of periods of no weight loss when I felt it should be expected, but these were usually followed by a period of more rapid loss. It's important not to get discourage. Just keep at it, and (provided the calorie deficit and exercise are there) you'll get there. Chris 262/155/ (145-150) -- 107 lbs. lost in 21 months |

Tonia 221/187!/130 Tonia, you're just so sensible about this! My friend that I'm coaching emails me in the morning and says "I gained a pound - I'm sure it's the handful of Doritos I had yesterday" Presuming her honesty, I explain how it's impossible to gain a pound on a handful of Doritos and just *keep going*!! (and drink more water) I did manage to get her to throw away half her son's birthday cake - the kids didn't like it and it was screaming at her from the fridge. When I told her I never ever liked cold cake, she told me she'd be happy to eat it frozen. We email each other all day long. s -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! (and drink more water) Okay, this stuff about water retention is new to me. I just read a post in which the author could tell water in their body from fat. I'm not doubting him/her, just wondering, "how do you know?". Can anyone recommend a good resource on this subject? I did manage to get her to throw away half her son's birthday cake - the kids didn't like it and it was screaming at her from the fridge. When I told her I never ever liked cold cake, she told me she'd be happy to eat it frozen. Oooooh, I do love frozen cake. Fortunately, I know it would be a major trigger for me, so I haven't had any since I started this WOE at the start of the year. That's okay though -- who knew grapefruit with Splenda would be just as good in its own way? Seriously! I never would have thought I'd enjoy natural foods so much.
