Stationary bike vs outside biking
I've noticed a couple of times people push for outside biking instead
of inside. Before I bought my stationary bike, I used to bike outside all the time. But I have to say that using my stationary bike, I feel like I have more of a workout. Biking outside, I get headaches and earaches and I don't break a sweat, even after an hour of biking. Indoors, after 20 minutes, I'm absolutely dripping. I thought sweating was the desired effect? |

I think outside cycling is more exercise because you're using all the stabilizing muscles to stay balanced and steer. You're also varying the intensity all the time as you go up and down hills and speed up and slow down. And it's fun. One of the main things that makes exercise successful is your willingness to do it over and over again. Riding a stationary bike for 45 minutes seems like a chore to me. Going for a 45 minute bike ride seems like a short escape to me. Dally |

I live stationary biking for regular exercise because I put it in front of my TV and I *actually use it*. doug |

If you use the sweat theory - then I guess swimming has beneficial exercise effect - huh? sarcasm You don't feel the sweat when outside because the wind and air is wicking it away from your body. I get much more of a workout outside than inside, and I tend to stay at it longer outside than inside. Even if I have TV, music, book, computer all available while on my inside stationary bike, I still get bored with it within 20 mins and its all I can do to force a 30 min workout. Whereas outside I can go for hours. Bottom line is - do what you enjoy doing. If you are more likely to use the stationary, then that is what works for you. Just don't be misconceived by the sweat factor myth. |

The deep breathing with outside, fresh air I believe is better for you.

I prefer the scenery and interest of cycling outdoors. janice |

I don't enjoy biking outdoors anymore. I get severe earaches.
But I do enjoy my stationary bike, everyday, I have no problems doing at least 40 minutes. |

Ok, I get it now, sweat is a myth.
But I do enjoy my stationary bike. |
