Did everyone here......
Did everyone on this NG start an exercise program when you started
low-carbing? Has anyone lost weight with just their normal activities, without extra exercise? |

Hi the I lost a lot of weight on lowcarb. I was really fat and did absolutely nothing physical for the first four months for alas, I was too fat. I lost about sixty pounds that way. To get all the way to Goal and then to Impossible Goal, I had to work out. c Nowhere near either at the moment |

I lost 60 pounds my first time low-carbing (in three chunks of about 20, separated by a couple plateaus) by staying below 30g/day of carbs (Protein Power's stage I), without any extra exercise. I was getting some exercise at the time, but no more than I had been before starting the plan. On the other hand, a few summers ago, my sisters talked me into running in a 5K with them. We were all overweight and pretty sedentary, so we spent three months training for it, running three days a week and riding bikes most of the other days. By the time we finished it, I was up to running five miles on running days. I felt good, and the progress we made, from gasping to a stop after 1/4 mile at first to handling five miles just fine three months later, was amazing and gratifying. But I didn't lose *a single pound*. We ran at our parents' farm, which meant I was there for at least one high-carb meal every day. My meals at home were still pretty low-carb, or who knows, I might have *gained* weight while doing all that running. Some will say I must have just eaten more calories to match the increased exercise. Fine. It didn't seem like I ate more, but maybe I did. I'll be the first to admit it's easy enough to vary your calories drastically without realizing it (one big reason why controlling calories doesn't work). Whatever the reason, I didn't lose weight despite drastically increasing my exercise. Diet trumps exercise, at least for me. When I'm getting the diet right, exercise might - might - help; but the diet comes first. -- Aaron -- 285/254/200 -- aaron.baugher.biz |

No. I did lose 35 pounds initially, without much excercise at all, but now I do walk everyday, not fast or anything, just walk. Cheri |

I may be speaking out of turn here, but I think Cubit lost a lot of his weight without any formal exercise. It is quite possible to lose weight without exercise, mind you. You just need to be really really careful about that you eat. Track everything and weigh yourself to make sure you're not overeating. |

On the path from 320 to 146, I worked out on exercise machines at the YMCA
while I was moving from 230 to 190. The rest of the time I just used low carb and calorie control to lose the weight. I forget what weigh range it was, but there was a phase during my weightloss where I felt light and floaty. It was like I was superman, when climbing stairs. It was effortless. Now, I feel the work of stairs, but my stamina lets me do all the stairs I want. Cubit 320/155/160 "Loco~Motion" wrote in message ... No, yes. I lost 60 pounds just by eating low carb, regained about 10, but
weighed myself this morning and am down about four pounds from that point, not sure what I have been doing right but probably just eating a little less. I went through a period of being really tired last winter and when I am tired I eat more so that may be the difference. I am nowhere near what you would consider a goal. I have never set a goal, just tried low carb to see what would happen and just by omitting certain things from my diet I lost weight. I do feel better with that weight gone but am not motivated to work on losing more. When you are very heavy it comes off easily, the less you weigh the harder it gets to lose more. I don't/won't exercise. I think exercise is very good for you but I hate to do it, I am lazy, my back and other parts have problems, I hate doctors too much to deal with them to try to fix these problems. I am almost 72, in my second childhood with no parents to make me do what is good for me. I don't complain about the consequences of my behavior. I have been eating LC for four years now, will continue to do so as it is one thing that is very easy for me and it does keep me thinner than I would be otherwise.
