That's true. For most people normal soap and water, with
antimocrobial agents when working with raw meats, is just fine. In
the case of our family it's a necessity though. My DH just finished
up 6 rounds of chemo last Monday and that plays holy hell with the
immune system. Right now he's back in the hospital. He spiked a
fever Sunday and got admitted with neutropenic fever (white cell count
was 400. Low end of normal is 5000.) Then chest pain cropped up.
Pneumonia this time. Bleh.
Until his immune system recovers we're going to have to be psychotic
germ-o-phobes ------note the scientific terminology. G

Take care,
Carmen

Yes, I'm weird. ;-)

Nope, you're not weird. It's great in the bathroom. I also
love the smell of freshly washed and bleached towels. Since
I don't use fabric softener (it affects absorption), the
bleach makes them smell wonderfully clean.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Funny thing (and something I have to
be careful of) is my old cat (Eli the Great Big Guy) *loves* the smell
of bleach. I have to ensure the floor is dry before he's allowed on
it when I use a bleach solution on it. Even then he flops on the
floor and writhes all over it. He likes that more than catnip. Weird
cat. :-)

Bleach is very safe. It's very effective against mold.

Personally I like the smell. It lets me know something is clean.

I hope I don't need to mention this but...never mix bleach with ammonia
(chlorine gas). I didn't fully rinse out the cat box when I put bleach in it
and ended up with a full on asthma attack.

Here's some charted info.

A different approach, two-part wash with real cheap stuff...
http://my.execpc.com/~mjstouff/articles/vinegar.html
http://www.deq.state.mt.us/Recycle/SafeCleanser.asp

And it even works for foods...
http://www.sciencenews.org/pages/sn_arch/9_28_96/food.htm

I use this approach for both wooden and plastic cutting boards.
Counter tops. Bathroom surfaces.

There's no dioxin in bleach.
