Default Monday Weigh-in, 4/30

Weighed in this morning and was surprised at the results. I've lost 7 pounds
since last Monday and I feel great. It seems every day I have more energy.
Took in approximately 1700 calories per day during the week and I walked a
total of 18 miles for the week and biked approximately 40 miles. I will try
to duplicate that exercise this week, but the weather may not cooperate, so
likely I'll have to go indoors to the gym.

With the exception of the bicycle riding, it sounds like your exercise and
diet program is very similar to the one I started on last October. At some
point you may want to consider finding a way to do some intense weight
lifting routines as well, every other day. It will help prevent losing too
much muscle mass.

Feels good to see results, huh? Stick to it and go for it!

I try to do some light upper body lifting twice a week. I don't really worry
about my lower body since I use my legs so much.

It's unbelievable. When I stepped on the scale this morning I could feel the
joy when the needle stopped short. I've done many diets and programs, but
they never have worked. I guess because I'm doing it my own way and not
following some guru it feels more rewarding.

Good for you. What kinda diet you are on? In my case food diary helps,
I stop myself because I know I am going to be writing whatever I eat.
Got myself a food cop :-)

I'm simply watching my calories (approx 1700 a day) and trying to walk
and/or bike every day. I think we try to make it too complicated sometimes.
At least that's what I have done for years.

Don't forget, you've already taken 36 pounds off of your leg workout and
that amount will keep increasing (decreasing if you look at it
differently). Leg exercises targeting muscle retention will be
increasingly more important as you lose weight. Trust me, you don't
want to lose them then have to rebuild them later. It's much easier to
keep what you've already built.

Good advice. I'm hoping, though, as the weight comes off that I can push my
walking and riding further. I'm considering doing some longer rides with a
local club. Maybe doing 34 miles rides then working up to 100 - 200 milers
as I get stronger/lighter. Hopefully that will keep me at the levels I
need.

Thanks for your comments.

There's nothing I find funnier than the fellas who walk around the
gym--biceps and shoulders pumped, chest puffed out--who have scrawny
chicken legs.

Squat!!! for pete's sake.

Excellent progress!

Hope you get some weather cooperation!
