I have a question...

Have a look at this site for some good advice http://www.caloriecounter.co.uk/index.html Making a set number (2000 cal) that fits ALL is bull sh!t. Sorry - but people are different. 2000 cals eaten by someone who is 5'1" tall and 105lbs, will most likely cause that person to gain weight. Whereas 2000 cals being eaten by a 6'2" 200lb person will most likely cause that person to lose. Dieting is NOT one size fits all. Well, I really do think where you set your calorie intake should be determined by a person's current age, weight, activity level, etc. But, I could be wrong, I'm pretty much a newbie to this diet stuff. It sounds like you are trying the right approach by checking it out. The people who do low carb don't exceed 100 grams of carbs a day but i used to keep protein between 80 and 100 grams a day and fat under 50 grams but did not count calories. The Zone is popular but hard to configure exactly. Still it's a good guideline for a more balanced approach. Welcome here! -- Diva ************* The Best Man for the Job is a Woman Thank you for the welcome! I tried the Atkin's Diet and felt very sick and tired on it. This is the first time in my life I have ever tried counting calories as a way to lose weight. I have been on this diet since August 7th, and have lost 16 lbs. I am very happy with this diet so far, it seems like a good, safe way to drop lbs. |

If you do the following, your BP is very likely to increase: 1) Eat NO processed foods and junk food. Capitalists put so much sodium into processed foods for a simple reason: to hide their bad taste. 2) Lose 10% of your body weight 3) Walk These are standard suggestions and they work wonderfully. Today my BP is 123/67. i My blood pressure was normal last time I had a doc appt.(about 4 weeks ago), I about **** my pants! I told the nurse her blood pressure cuff or something was broken, made her take it again! It was normal both readings! I have had high blood pressure for 22 years (it is hereditary), and I am on 2 medications for it. |

Yep, check the processed foods, even soda has some, DietRite is sodium free if you have to have some. Check the DASH diet and low sodium combination to lower BP, it works. I'm going to try that DietRite. Now I'm drinking Caffeine free diet coke, but I'll definitely give DietRite a try. Thanks! Free pdf of diet (I don't have high BP, but based my diet from this) http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/publ...h/new_dash.pdf Decent website for more info. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/hbp/index.html Thanks for the links, I'll check them out too. In combination with weight loss, and even 15-20 lbs can help, you may be able to get it under control. Don't adjust medication for BP on your own, but keep tabs on BP while you lose. Doc may have to make some adjustments as you develop healthier habits of eating and exercise. I hope so, I would love to get it under control permanently. I have a blood pressure cuff here at home. |

Many people have reduced their need for meds if they are serious about diet and exercise. Feel better and live longer. Thanks! |

I have a question...
"~Debby~" wrote I am currently taking in about 1200 a day. Please help me to gigure out what my target percentages should be for these other categories. ? % Calories from Fat ? % Calories from Carbs ? % Calories from Protein ? Target Sodium (mg) ? Target Cholesterol (mg) Thanks!! Oh, and I am currently walking a mile a day, working myself up. Hi Debby! I've been hanging around here just about a month and you'll find lots of support and information - sometimes conflicting - be sure to do your own research. I lost 97 pounds in a year by walking and eating around 1200 calories a day. I'm only 5 feet tall, so that recommendation for 2000 calories would not work for me. (see what I mean about conflict?) It was the walking that kicked my metabolism into motion. I truly LOVE to walk! I worked up to 8 miles a day. Get some good shoes - I went through 5 pairs in a year. I like to listen to music, so I have an mp3 player for company. Stay awhile and keep walking! -- Walking on . . . Laurie in Maine 207/110 60 inches of attitude! Start: 2/02 Maintained since 2/03 |

I will definitely be here for awhile, I have another 30 lbs. to lose. I really appreciate this group, and I appreciate the wide array of opinions shared here! |

I use a de-juicer machine and juice six to ten different vegetables and drink eight ounces of it twice a day. I work in a large kitchen at a Christian college and since I began to use my juicer machine I keep my eyes open for dicarded vegetable parts. The kitchen workers in the Salad Department always cut the pealings off the cantaloupes and mellons. A fellow cook of mine (I am a cook) was cutting the tops and bottoms off five hundred large green sweet bell peppers and I asked them both for the peelings and pepper pieces so I could juice them. They throw away pounds of vegetable parts each day. Or they did. I believe in the power of plants. I have read a few books on this subject and they states that one can get most if not all of their needed nutritional needs from plants. I do eat fish a few times a week for its oil. (salmon) I Fast a few times a month to give my body a break from digesting solid foods. When I fast I just drink my vegetable juice and I have yet to feel weak, tired or hungry. I do three 24 and one 48 hour fast each month. It also helps me with my weight lost. ( I have about fifty pounds I want to lose) Monte |
