You and Steve have both made statements to this effect. I don't see it
- what am I missing? To my eye it just says that a certain church
welcomes all comers. What do you see in it that might provoke someone?

A mission to what though...save the persons from themselves? Show them
the error of their ways? That sort of position inherently involves the
assumption that the person on the mission's views are right, and that
the others are wrong. By its very nature it involves an assumption of
superiority of some sort. They don't have to hate the people they think
are wrong to be bigoted. The bigotry lies in the assumption of
superiority in the first place.

Yes, Penny appears to be really into alternative medicine -- and controlling
BG is probably why she hangs here. It is my guess that she writes Priscilla
personally to avoid going off-topic in this newsgroup.

Of course, Google reveals that Penny and Priscilla participate in threads
over in alt.religion.christian.episcopal too. So I don't understand why
Priscilla is choosing to bring this to the "light" over here.

The tagline has to be taken in light of current events. You would have
to be living on another planet in the last two months not to be aware
of the
controversy over the Episcopal Church confirming an openly homosexual
bishop. It was in the headlines for a week in early September, I
believe.
Given that, it is hard for me to imagine that the average person
reading that
tagline would not interpret it to be a reference to the Episcopal
Church's
acceptance of homosexuals. That would be provocative to anyone who
disagreed with
the decision, especially another Episcopalian.

At an absolute minimum it has nothing to do with low carbohydrate...
nor does the Wesley Clark tagline. I'm not naive enough to expect that
people
aren't going to use taglines to grind their own axes and promote their
own
viewpoints. I just don't think they should complain about it when they
get the rise out of someone else that the tag line is intended to
get.

I was aware of the controversy. I'm sad to see people ascribing nasty
motives to a simple (rather sweet, I thought) tagline though, based on
no real evidence, just suspicion.

Have a good evening,
Carmen

Quite possibly the only time I've ever agreed with you Mr. Mu.

Could be Mrs. Mu, you never know.

Not from me -- I had no idea that the tagline meant anything. So, "Also,
having such a tagline
simply invites this kind of attention" should be changed to "Also, having
such a tagline
simply invites this kind of attention for people who know something about
this religion."
