diet idea that works really good.
I work shift work so sometimes I work a night shift and other times a
day shift. To get to sleep the doctor prescribed me sleeping pills ( ambien ) which knock you out pretty fast. Anyways I was dieting at the time and found something that really helps. What I would do is eat reasonable breakfast and reasonable late lunch. Then I would not eat dinner at all. ( So only 2 meals a day ). In the evening though I would start to get really hungry and in the past this would screw up my diet b/c I could not hold off from eating. Now I just take the sleeping pill and even though I'm hungry it knocks me out. I don't wake up with the same intense hunger and I go through the same routine again... Steve. |

As far as when you take in calories, the body has been through years of evolution to adapt to this. You can eat your meals pretty much whenever (right before bedtime as a notable exception). The only big difference between different schedules of equal caloric intake is when you'll feel hunger. I'm not personally a big fan of sleeping aids, but other potential effects aside, this is a fine plan. |

Steve. I get hungry late at night too. While I don't take sleeping pills, I'm not as hungry in the morning after 8 hours or so of additional fasting just like what you report. This tells me that we overeaters simply cannot trust our instincts regarding food. That old saw you would hear usually about kids where they would eat a whole lot of food and somebody would remark: "If they didn't need it, they wouldn't eat it," just doesn't seem to ring true. If I had a skinny kid, that would work fine, but if my kid were a little portly, I would not think it was a good idea for them to overeat. Luckily, my 11-year-old daughter has no weight problems. That could be cause she goes to the frig and finds diet pop or water, lettuce, carrots, and spinach. Next she tries the pantry and finds oats, chickpeas, lentils and did I mention oats? I bought 50 pounds of steel cut oats a month ago and we have already consumed over 10 pounds of the things. I love em. Her friends come over and look a long time before they ask where's the food? I never tried Ambien, but I did take an occasional Sominex. I would always feel tired and hung over in the morning and have a little water retention, so I just stopped. I don't sleep so well, but good enough. 6 hours seems to work for me just fine. Besides, I don't want to sleep too soundly. I like my dreams too much. dkw |

"...works well" not "...works good." Although what your subject line should *really* be is "diet idea that is really stupid." Because it is. Really, really stupid. You are going to have to eat food for the rest of your natural life. Learn to make peace with it. |
